Chapter Twenty-Three
The next day, Sid opened her eyes to the faint light streaming through the window. She had no idea what time of day it was, but she quickly forgot about that as she gazed at Gregor’s sleeping face.
He was turned toward her, his mouth open and eyes closed. Even asleep, he had his hand on her hip in a simultaneously protective and possessive gesture.
And Sid didn’t mind. Gregor was her true mate and her love. She wouldn’t deny his dragon nature completely. She trusted him to know when to act alpha and when to let her loose. He’d more than shown he was capable of that since his arrival, not balking at taking a less exciting task to let her do what needed to be done.
Of course, she would have to compromise, too. As her pregnancy progressed, Gregor would grow uneasy. Allowing him to be extra protective might help him come to terms with what had happened to his mate. Sid would need to take care of herself, too. Luckily she had plenty of extra help at the surgery these days.
It was amazing what several weeks could do to her old routine.
Sid’s dragon stretched in the back of her mind. Pushing aside all other thoughts, Sid held her breath. She had no idea if it was too soon to determine if the medicine she’d taken was working or not.
Her beast yawned and spoke up. I know you’re awake. Why aren’t you saying anything?
I wasn’t sure you wanted to talk to me.
Her dragon paused and finally asked, Can I be honest?
I want that more than anything.
While I’m still upset over my imprisonment, my anger towards you has faded. You were unconscious when the others gave us the dragon slumber drug.
Sid paused to gather her thoughts. She didn’t want to sound needy or too hopeful. If I had known what was going to happen, I never would’ve allowed it.
I believe you. I’m not sure why I was so vengeful before. I made noise and roared to let you know I was there and that I wanted to be free. Once I was free, I should’ve been happy.
It was the drug from the Dragon Knight drone that affected your emotional state. But none of that is important. I’m just looking forward to what we can accomplish in the future.
We will have our mate and child. That will keep us busy.
Sid smiled. That it will. Although, we’ll make sure to have some fun, too. You deserve it.
Gregor’s voice interrupted any reply. “You’re smiling whilst talking to your dragon. That’s a good sign.”
After so many years not talking with her beast, Sid debated whether she should ask Gregor for some time alone with her dragon or enjoy her precious free time with her mate.
Her dragon chimed in. I will be here. We haven’t spent enough time with our mate. I say tease him and make him beg.
She laughed. I like that idea.
Gregor spoke again. “What’s so funny?”
Propping her head on her hand, she answered, “My dragon.”
He searched her eyes. “So things are better?”
“As you’d say, aye, they are.” Sid moved her free hand to Gregor’s hip and stroked. “My beast also has another idea.”
Gregor moved his hand to her arse cheek. The heat of his hand burned her skin and shot straight between her thighs.
Her eyes moved to his full mouth and she could almost taste her mate.
Her dragon growled. Don’t take too long.
Her Scot’s husky voice filled the room. “I hope this idea involves you and me in this bed.”
He rolled until he was on top of her. Since they were both naked, she couldn’t miss his hard cock pressed against her belly. “Maybe,” she answered.
