Pressure built, but Brenna bit her lip. She wouldn't leave Killian hanging again. He needed—no deserved—to come.
"Let go, love. And I'll follow," Killian ordered.
Not caring about following his demand, Brenna allowed the pleasure to crash over her, making it hard to keep moving. Only when Killian roared and stilled her hips did she stop.
When her orgasm finally ended, Brenna collapsed on Killian's chest and snuggled against him.
For a few long minutes, she simply laid in his arms, content to listen to Killian's beating heart. More than once she'd come close to losing him. And yet, here she was, laying with the man she loved.
While she was fairly sure that Killian's dragons wouldn't be a problem, she hoped that whatever was on that thumb drive would have a formula they could use to protect and ensure nothing else bad happened to Killian or any other dragon-shifter she cared for.
Running his fingers up and down her spine, Killian murmured, "You tensed right there. What're you thinking about?"
She looked up and propped her chin on his chest. "Just that I want more of this, and that maybe we'll soon have the information we need to make sure nothing else happens to you as a result of the drugs forced on you. For all we know, your dragons are stable. But there could be any other number of aftereffects from that drug."
"As long as I have you, I'm not going anywhere. That includes maintaining my sanity and consciousness."
She rolled her eyes. "Willing it doesn't make it so."
He stilled his hand on her back. "Dr. Sid has already mentioned that she and the other doctors have several good starts at preventive formulas. With skill and a wee bit of luck, we hopefully won't have to worry about dragon-shifters being drugged anymore."
Brenna opened her mouth to argue, but her mobile phone rang. The ringtone was the one assigned to the surgery. "That might be Dr. Sid. I should answer it."
Killian leaned up to kiss her, and then rolled her to the side. Leaning down, he fished out her phone from the remnants of her trousers.
Brenna took it an
d answered, "Hello?"
Gregor's voice came on the line. "Brenna, lass, you need to come to the surgery. Your mother's in labor and wants to see you."
A bad feeling gathered in the pit of her stomach. "Why now? My father should be there."
"He is, but your mother's not doing so well. Sid is doing everything she can to ensure she pulls through, but I suggest you get here as soon as you can."
She managed to croak, "I'll be there."
Clicking off her phone, she stared at the screen. Gregor had to be exaggerating.
Killian asked, "What's wrong?"
She met his gaze. "I think Gregor just hinted that my mother might be dying."
"Brenna."
He pulled her close and she took a brief moment to drink in Killian's heat. Then taking a deep breath, she moved away and off the bed. "But I'm not going to bloody let her."
As she got dressed in a new set of clothes, Killian did the same.
Brenna needed to see her mother, and quickly. Maybe she merely needed extra encouragement.
If at all possible, Brenna wasn't going to allow her brother to grow up without a mother. She and her mum might've had a tough time over the years, but Brenna loved her. And blast it, she hadn't just secured Killian to lose someone else she loved.
Chapter Twenty
Zain Kinsella stared down at the ginger-haired female and wondered how such a delicate human could be such an evil person.
His dragon spoke up. Just because she has information about the Knights doesn't mean she's evil.
