His eyebrows rose quizzically. “What?”
“Jared and Cassie aren't supposed to find out about the surprise party being planned for October. They don't know Molly sent me looking for you. Since I have no intention of waiting nearly four months to bring you back into the family, we've got to make up a story about how we ran into each other again completely by accident.”
“How about we tell them that I kidnapped you and had my wicked way with you until you agreed to marry me?”
She grinned but shook her head. “They would never believe that.”
He touched her cheek. “Then maybe we should tell them that I've been in love with you since I was sixteen and I finally had the good sense to do something about it.”
“I like that,” she murmured, shaken by the ring of truth in his deep voice. “Maybe we'll come up with a variation of it.”
He caught the back of her neck in one hand and pulled her down for a long, deep kiss. Wrapping her arms around him, B.J. decided it didn't really matter what they told anyone else.
They had always been meant to be together. One way or another, they would have found each other again. This time it was forever.
