Phoenix lifted his hips to meet me thrust for thrust as I drove inside him. Sweat beaded my brow, and the bedsprings creaked in time with our steady motion.

“I’m so close. Are you?” he groaned. When I licked my lips and nodded as I thrust my hips, he bit my earlobe and whispered, “If you can’t come inside me, I want you to come on me.”

Oh. Wow.

Come on me? I swallowed hard, but I didn’t stop to ask for clarification. I pulled out, rolled off the condom and jacked myself twice before shooting ropes of cum all over his stomach. I think I hit his chin too, but before my vision cleared completely, he grabbed my neck and pulled me closer just as his release hit. I fell on top of him and scooped him into my arms, holding him until our heart rates returned to normal.

We stayed glued to each other in a mess of sweat and cum for a few minutes. Then I rose above him and brushed his nose with mine.

“Congratulations,” I said with a roguish smile.

“Thank you. Where are you going?” he asked when I moved off him.

“I’m a mess. There’s cum all over me.”

“C’mere. I’ll lick it off,” he offered, crooking his fingers.

I reached for one of the towels he kept on a wicker chair in the corner of his room. I swiped at my belly and my spent dick with one end before setting it beside him on the bed. “I wish I could. I gotta hurry. Tell me about the play.”

Phoenix rolled to his side and propped himself on his elbow. “I got a generic message this morning that the cast list had been posted. It was one of those ‘follow this link to get to that link’ deals. I couldn’t do it at first. I thought the audition went well, but it could have been a failure.”

“There was no way you were gonna fail. You deserve this.”

“Thank you.”

I pressed a kiss on his forehead and sat on the corner of his mattress. “When do you start?”

“Next week. But there might be a meeting Saturday, so I’m not sure if I can come to your game this weekend.”

This was it. This was my opportunity to tell him about Sky. I could admit that I’d been freaked out for days and that I was thinking about making some big changes when my season ended. And in the way a million thoughts barrel at you at the same time, I was going to tell him my folks would be at the game and it would be cool if he met them. But that was a weird one too, so I bottled it back inside and opened my mouth to just tell him…what? That I was crazy about him?

“It’s okay. Um…look, I have something to tell—”

“Nixxy, I’m hooome!”

Phoenix and I shared an “Oh, fuck” look.

“Hi,” he called out after a moment.

“What’s she doing here?” I whispered in a panicky tone. I grabbed my boxers and jeans and hurriedly hopped in them like a demented bunny before slipping my shoes on. I tried to gauge how weird it would be to run into his sister half-dressed and— “Fuck, I think my shirt is out there.”

“Geez, it’s not a big deal, Max. She knows about us.”

“I know, but—”

Knock, knock. “Phoenix, Max! Open the door,” Sunny hissed.

Phoenix jumped out of bed and swiped at the mess on his stomach before hurrying to his dresser on the other side of the room. I watched him pull on a pair of red boxer briefs and sweat pants before glancing at the Judy Garland poster above his glass IKEA desk. His room was full of eclectic goodies. Every time I was here I spotted something new. Like the hamburger bookends sitting atop a collection of ancient fashion magazines.

He slipped a T-shirt over his head and nodded for me to open the door. “Hi,” I said.

“Criminy.” Sunny gave us a thorough once-over, then looked at her brother. “We have a situation. Sarah’s on a phone call in the hallway. Pick up your handcuffs, put on your shirt. What do you want me to say? How are we going to explain Max? She was with me all afternoon. Maybe, you could stay in here for another hour.”

“I’m late for practice. I can’t stay,” I whispered. “Why do we have to say anything at all?”

“Because if we don’t, she’ll figure it out. Trust me. You look suspicious. Do you want her to think you’re with me or Phoenix?”

“Tell her Max was here to wait for you. To surprise you,” Phoenix said as he moved into the living area.

“Okay. That’ll work.” She grabbed my T-shirt from the floor and threw it at me. “Get dressed, Romeo.”

“Hi, Phoenix. I—” Sarah paused in the open doorway for a beat. “What are you doing here, Max?”
