Of course, that wouldn’t accomplish her task of teasing him. “See? Payback can be a bitch,” she stated.

His hand traveled up her back. His rough fingers against her bare skin nearly made her shiver.

When he lightly pressed her down toward him, Faye decided to let it happen. As much as her payback was for Grant, her skin burned to have his hot mouth on her nipples.

Her dragon huffed. He should wait for that gift.

Ignoring her beast, she stopped when her nipples were a hairsbreadth from Grant’s mouth. The heat of his breath only made them tighter.

Grant never severed his gaze as he drew one into his mouth. As he sucked and nibbled, Faye placed her hands on the bed to either side of his head to support herself. It was almost as if he could read her mind on how she liked being touched.

When he finally released her, his hot breath danced against her wet flesh as he said, “Put your top back on, Faye.”

“Pardon?”

The corner of his mouth ticked up. “Well, unless you’re wanting to give whoever is coming a free show.”

Without lust clouding her senses, Faye heard faint footsteps. The room was only mostly soundproofed. She quickly tugged her shirt over her head.

Once she had it fully on, she just managed to slide from the bed into a chair when there was a knock. Grant whispered, “You might want to smooth your hair, lass, or everyone will know what we’ve been up to.”

If she knew who was on the other side of the door, she would weigh following his order or not. But when a male voice said, “Grant? It’s Chase,” Faye smoothed her hair and thought of flight routines. She wasn’t about to meet with Grant’s brother in such a state.

Grant scanned Faye’s appearance before replying, “Aye, come in.”

A younger version of Grant, albeit with longer blond hair instead of short-cropped brown, walked into the room. When he spotted Faye, he frowned. “Didn’t Mum come over? We were supposed to meet here.”

“Aye, she did but right now she’s having coffee with Lorna MacKenzie.” Grant gestured toward Faye. “You’ll have to settle for Faye as company.”

Faye didn’t care that this was the first formal introduction to Chase since getting together with Grant and she replied, “He has to ‘settle,’ aye? I’ll remember that.”

Chase spoke up. “Excuse my brother. He’s the less charming out of the pair of us.”

Chase winked and Faye laughed at Grant’s growl. She said, “I haven’t seen you since we were children. It seems you’re still the lighthearted of the two.”

Chase grinned. “Aye, well, I have to be. No one is going to invite me back round to fix their electrical problems if I scare or upset them. Although my good looks help with the females and the males who fancy blokes.”

Grant interjected, “Although flirting with the mated lasses should be done at your own peril.”

Chase waved a hand. “I’m not going to act on it.”

As the two brothers continued to argue, Faye’s mobile beeped. She opened the text message. It was from Cooper: New information. Can you come to central command?

Grant calling her name garnered her attention. He asked, “What is it?”

“Cooper needs to see me.”

Chase jumped in. “I can look after my brother for a bit, aye? From what I hear, you’ve been here for days. A little fresh air, even if it’s just for a short walk, will do you good.”

“Chase is right,” Grant said. “Protecting the clan is our top priority. Besides, the sooner you find out what’s going on, the sooner you can come back and tell me.”

Since this would be the first test of their possible partnership, Faye had to trust Grant as much as he would her if the situation were reversed. She stood and looked to Chase. “Just make sure he doesn’t try to get out of bed. If you have any doubts, talk to Dr. MacFie or a nurse.”

“Faye,” Grant started.

“I know you. You’d do the same if it were me injured, don’t deny it.” Grant’s sigh was all the answer she needed. “Aye, well, I’ll be back as soon as possible. If anything happens at all, you can text me. Make sure to give Chase the number.”

Chase nodded. “I’ll make sure he does. He might be older than me, but I don’t have to listen to him. We’re nearly the same size as adults.”
