“Sounds like you’re going through it, boo.”
“It’s just another day in the life of Tasha Baker,” she said on a sigh. “How are you enjoying my city so far?”
“It’s okay. A lot like Hotlanta in some ways with the heat, traffic, and people’s attitudes. I love my new house though.”
“I bet you do,” Tasha said, taking another sip.
“I feel like a queen on a throne with people cooking dinner, unpacking, helping with this and that. You know me, I’m still used to doing a lot for myself, so all of this will take some getting used to.”
Tasha shook her head and laughed. “If those are all the problems you have, I don’t think you’ll have a problem overcoming them.”
“On that I must agree,” I said as I picked up my glass and clacked it to hers. I then squeezed a piece of lemon into my tea, before sipping some of the heavenly fluid through my straw.
“I can’t believe Montana is turning four already,” Tasha said.
“Yep, and when I talked to her on the phone last week she was adamant that she wants a Doc McStuffins themed party. I’m cool with that and want to do something simple, but Jacob is intent on turning our backyard into Doc McStuffins’ own personal hospital, staff included.”
“Girl, you know Jacob is extra.”
“Exactly, he has gone so far as to contact Brown Bag Films to get copies of the original sketches so his assistant could get someone to craft life size costumes of Doc McStuffins and all of the other characters on the show. He’s also ordered six hours of the original Doc McStuffins character for the party, as well.”
“Owweee! Montana is going to be stoked. Hell, I’m stoked for her.”
“I’m stoked, too. I just want my kids to stay grounded. That’s going to be hard when they have everything they could ever want at their fingertips.”
“Yeah, but you’re grounded so your kids will be, too. Is Montie going to fly in on Jacob’s jet with the kids?” Tasha asked with a suspicious looking grin.
“No, why do you ask?”
“Just wondering if he decided to take you up on the offer.”
“He’s adamant about booking flights and paying for it himself. He hasn’t come around to the whole idea of using Jacob’s jet for traveling back and forth between here and Atlanta.”
“Can you blame the man?” Tasha asked.
“It would make things so much easier if he would just…”
“Listen to yourself, Destiny. Not very long ago, you were in the bed with Montie sending mixed signals about where you stood. Now, you want him to fly around on your fiancé’s jet. Any man with a little bit of pride wouldn’t do that.”
“I guess you’re right, since you put it that way.”
“I’m just being real. It’s not like you are that far from another romp in the sack.”
“See that’s where you’re wrong. I would never do anything like that again. I was in a very vulnerable place then, and I fully intend not to let that history repeat,” I said and I meant it from the depths of my soul.
“As long as you believe that and stay strong, it’s possible,” Tasha said trying to sound convincing. “I just know through your children you have a forever kind of bond and you never know when a situation might come up that makes you feel like he’s the only one you can turn to.”
“I will turn to the man God sent for me, Jacob. Montie will always hold a special place in my heart. He’s the father of my children and will always be a friend.”
“That’s good.”
“I’m just glad he didn’t make a big deal about us moving.”
“What made him come around?” Tasha asked.
“I was firm that it was happening whether he liked it or
not. He’s agreed to my ideas of ways to establish a long-distance relationship with our children, starting with Montana’s birthday party. Technically, he could’ve kept her in Atlanta because summer break is his time.”
