Slightly speechless, I brush my fingers through Marbles fur and swallow the lump forming in my throat.
“I’ve only ever wanted one thing in my life, Colter.”
“What’s that?”
“You.”
“Woof!” Marble jumps into our lap, making sure her presence hasn’t been forgotten.
Scratching her ears, I lean forward, and she kisses my face. “And Marble, can’t forget her.” A flutter blossoms in my chest as she closes her eyes and leans into my touch, like she knew what I was saying.
Colter’s silence is unnerving, so I continue petting the puppy until his hand grasps my chin and lifts my face to meet his stare.
“I’ve searched almost my entire life for a woman like you Oaklynn.” His voice is husky.
“A woman like me?” Swallowing around the lump in my throat isn’t easy.
“Smart, funny, kind, genuine. Not many women would rescue a puppy in this weather and then shield it from the elements while trying to find shelter.”
“I did have ulterior motives.” A shy smile spreads across my lips.
“They also wouldn’t have made sure an old woman was taken care of for the storm the way you did either.” Pushing Marble off our laps, he bends down to run his nose along the column of my throat, making me shiver. “I can see forever with you Oaklynn.”
“You’re crazy, Colter. It’s only been one night.” I’m trying to give him an out but if I’m honest with myself, I can see forever too. And oh, how I want it. Desperately.
“Only about you baby.” He captures my lips in a possessive kiss and I can’t do anything but allow him all the control he is so obviously craving as we fall back to the makeshift bed and he’s spreading my legs again.
The rough brush of his hand along my thigh as he centers himself to my core and slowly begins to enter me again, I hold my breath and wait for my heart to calm down before moving. Gripping his shoulders in both hands, I try to hold on for the ride as he gently starts thrusting his hips in and out. Rocking our bodies in a lazy glide.
“Colter,” I whisper his name when he pulls away to catch his breath. “Harder, Colter. Please.” I want this deep connection to last for as long as possible, but lord have mercy I need more.
“You’re a little vixen, baby.” His hands grip mine and he pulls them above our heads, holding me in place as he sits up further.
His eyes move up and down my body and it’s as erotic as any caress from the warmth of his hands.
Closing my eyes, I sigh as his fingers graze along my body. Exploring every dip and groove. Tasting when he feels like. Yelping when he nips my flesh, I can’t imagine a more perfect moment if I tried.
Chapter Seven
Colter
“Oh my God!” Oaklynn’s squeal has my lips quirking up. “Colter Wade!”
“Woof!” Marble barks as she hops out of the snow pile she’d dug herself into.
“You started it.” I challenge.
After the storm finally let up and we could go outside without the threat of freezing to death, Oaklynn had thrown a snowball at me. It’s been a long damn time since I’ve had such a carefree moment, let alone been in a snowball fight.
I know once the roads are cleared, later today, I’m going to have to take her home. Give her back to her family. It’s a moment I’m quickly dreading.
I want to keep Oaklynn. I want to pick up her stuff and move her into my house with me. But her father is a bit of a traditional man and I know he’d like me to court her first. If he doesn’t balk at the age difference.
“Hey!” Her soft voice calls right before I get splattered in the face. “Shit.” She mutters and before I can get the damn snow off my face, I can hear her retreating footsteps as she and Marble run around the house.
“You’ll pay for that!” I call out laughing when I hear Oaklynn’s sweet giggle. Tracking around to the other side of the house, I collect enough snow in my hand that when I see her peeking around the other side of the house, I’m able to sneak up on her and shove it down the back of her jacket.
“Oh!! Colter!!” She jumps a foot in the air and I catch her on her way down as the dog jumps and barks around us having the time of her life.
