“Oh yeah, as soon as Shovel told me what was going on, I searched them, found their stash, flushed it, and sent them on their way.” Mack seems proud of himself, but if shit like this happens again, he knows he’s fucking toast.

“Okay, gonna be doing a search tonight on all the girls working, including their locker rooms. We find anything else, they’re gone too. And none of this goddamn freebie shit that’s been happening,” I tell Mack. If it’s not one damn thing, it’s something else. Getting damn tired of having to do everything myself.

“Alright, I’ll be doing inventory while you’re in here. Let me know if you need anything.” He stands up. Mack is a decent guy. Sure, he’s got shit going on in his personal life, that still doesn’t make neglecting an important part of business right.

“Later,” I dismiss him. If there’s any other fucking discrepancy, I know what’s going to happen. And I won’t be making a phone call to Shovel. He may be the President, and I may be the Vice President, but when it comes to handling shit, we both know what needs to be done. Since Mack isn’t patched in, there’ll be no meeting about it either.

“Shit, shit, shit,” I hear coming down the hall from what I’m assuming is Raven. It has me on high alert. Her ass should have been gone a while ago.

I stand up and follow her voice to where she’s still bitching, enjoying the enticing view she’s hell bent on showing me as she goes through her locker. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say Raven is hiding something, but my instincts are telling me that she’s not one for using.

“Help you with something?” I lean against one of the tables in the staging area, arms crossed over my chest.

“Fucking shit, you scared the damn bejeezus out of me. No. I left one of my books here that I need to study.” She turns around, the book I guess she left in hand, which with how big that thing is, it clearly wasn’t in her bag earlier.

“Can’t say that I’m sorry. Just making sure things were alright.” My eyes travel the length of her body before I turn and leave. A plan coming together to see how much I can tempt the temptress tonight.

“I’m not doing a private dance, you know that, plus I literally just got off the stage, Mack.” I tell him this like he doesn’t already know it, but after three songs I need a freaking break.

“Yeah, you are. If you wanna keep this job at least. Take a five-minute breather, then you’re up, kid.” I could really fucking do with taking my stiletto off and gauging his eye out. Today has been an epic disaster. The only saving grace is the amount of money that’s coming in. Six more months, and I can kiss this job goodbye and maybe, just maybe, set myself up for a different path. Both my best friend, Selena, and her sister-in-law, Laney, have shed light on a dream that could really be lucrative. If I just continue doing what I’m doing for a few more months than I set out to. My college tuition is paid off, there’s money in my account, another small nest egg put away, but opening up a dance studio will take serious bank.

I’m not sure what’s going on with Mack, but something isn’t right. He’s snarkier than normal, and the shit from this morning isn’t sitting well with me.

“Fine, but I’m taking a break first,” I smart back, heading towards the dressing room. Most of the girls will sit at the bar and have a drink, alcoholic or not. That’s not for me though. If I’m going to get a few minutes away from work, it’s going to be in the quiet and not in the atmosphere where even more people are leering at you when not on stage.

“That’s what I said. If you’d quit busting my balls, you’d know that. Jesus, Raven.” I roll my eyes as if I didn’t know that. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t give him some kind of hell.

“Aye, aye, Captain.” I mock salute him, making my way to where my dressing table and locker are.

“Hey, Raven, just letting you know everything’s a mess in there. I guess Razor and Mack did a random search-and-destroy deal while you were on set. Not that I knew about it either while I was doing a private room, but, Jesus, shit is everywhere,” Jenna tells me in the hall. Today is just one of those days when the world is conspiring against you.

“Thanks, I’m sure I’ll be spending what little break I do have picking up my shit. Men are so fucking annoying,” I grumble.

“You’re not lying. I guess when they fired Maya and Brooke, it was for a reason.” She lifts an eyebrow, conveying her point. We all assumed it was for something drug related. It’s the one rule Diamondback demands. Everything else, let’s just say it’s not talked about.
