He slid out of her and then pushed back in, more sensation radiated through her. “How was that?”

“Again.” she moaned against his lips.

He repeated the movement and tendrils of pleasure made her toes curl and her hand clutch at his back.

This time, he didn’t ask, he just did it over and over quickening the pace until she could hardly stand it. She grabbed at his skin, her heels pressing him harder into her. “Theo,” she cried as thought she might perish from the pleasure and then it broke.

His own moans of satisfaction matched hers.

They stayed locked together some time, whispering words that Violette couldn’t recall. Not the exact phrases anyway. But the feeling, she’d never forget. It was love.

Epilogue

Violette raced about the room searching for her stocking. She’d found one but the other had gone missing.

“Found it,” Theo called, grinning with mischief. He reached up and pulled the silky fabric from the top of one of the bed’s large posts.

“How did end up there?” she huffed as she sat on the bed to put the stocking on.

“Allow me.” Theo’s smile widened as he knelt on the ground before her. He was terrible and breathtaking.

She snatched the stocking from his hand. “That is how we got into trouble in the first place. You’re a terrible distraction. The wedding is in an hour and my hair still needs to be pinned.”

His eyebrows rose. “I seem to recall that you enjoyed my diversion.”

She leaned over and kissed his lips. “You know I did.”

“I’m sorry that we had to postpone our trip to France.” He took the stocking from her hand and rolled it up her leg. Even after what they’d just done, his touch sent shivers along her skin.

“I’m not. How could I miss Daffodil’s wedding?” She gave him a grin. “Besides, we leave on Monday.”

“We do.” He pulled her off the bed. “But it had been one postponement after another.”

She touched his face. “I’m fine with that if you are. Our duties come first.”

He pulled her close and gave her a long slow kiss. “You are the most amazing woman,” he said, briefly breaking away before capturing her mouth with his again.

She was in danger of losing herself in the kiss. Not that she normally cared, but today, she needed to be on time. “Theo,” she gasped.

“Fine,” he murmured. “We’ll finish that kiss later.”

“At this rate, we won’t make it off the ship when we arrive in France.” She slid her hand down his arm.

“You might be right.” He wiggled his eyebrows as he helped her into her corset. “Not that it would matter to me. I’m happy wherever you are.”

She blinked. “I thought you wanted to travel? Be an adventurer?”

He tightened the strings of her corset and turned her in his arms. “I’ll go wherever you wish to go, my love. Showing you the world will be one of my greatest joys. But the truth is, you are all that matters to me.”

Her heart fluttered in her chest. How could she be so fortunate?

This time when he took her lips, it was with a tenderness that made her ache. “You’re all I need too.”

“Come, my love. Let’s get you ready so that we might see your sister married. That courtship might have been bumpier than ours even. We need to see it to its end.”

“Oh, I agree,” she said as Theo helped her into her dress. When the last button was closed, she reached for his hands. “I love you, Mr. Riley.”

His rakish grin said it all. “Careful, Mrs. Riley, or you won’t make it to the wedding.”
