“Will you shut up?” I say.

“Don’t kill me. Mr. Black was the one who hired me. It was all a game to try and get you two closer together. It was for your own good. I hardly touched you two. I gave you a couple of bruises and Langston a dislocated shoulder. I just did what Mr. Black told me to do,” he quivers.

“We know,” we both say with smug smiles.

“So, you aren’t going to kill me?”

“No, but they don’t know that. We’ll let them think you are drowning in the middle of the ocean.”

He laughs. “And where will you hide me?”

Langston winks at me. “In the middle of the fucking ocean.” He presses a button, and the side door opens, then he flys the helicopter sideways until Rowan falls out the door and splashes down in the water.

A phone lights up in front of us, and Langston answers. “Yes?”

“Turn the fuck back around,” Enzo says.

“Why would I do that?”

“The man you just kidnapped works for me. He’s a good man. He has a daughter. Don’t kill him.”

“His blood is on your hands. You fucking set us up, had us tortured, and thought it was for the best. I don’t want to see your face, or you’ll end up with a black eye and the inability to have more kids.”

“Where is he?” Enzo huffs.

“The middle of the ocean, just like Liesel and I had to endure. Except I tied his hands behind his back instead of the front. You better hope he’s a good swimmer.” Then Langston hangs up.

“That was cruel.”

“You disapprove?”

“No. It was cruel, but definitely deserved.”

“You know we have more in common than just being good lays?”

I smile at the twinkle in his eye. Maybe there’s a chance yet of one more fuck.

I put the helicopter down near my place on a field by the beach. I turn the engine off and then turn to Liesel. In a matter of minutes, we are going to have to deal with the real world.

Kai is going to call me to lecture me about hurting Rowan, even though the guy got a lot less than he deserved. A few minutes in the cool ocean water is nothing compared to what we dealt with at his hands. I don’t care who hired him; he’s still an asshole. We’ll have to deal with Phoenix and possibly explain our relationship to my kids.

But we can put off the inevitable for a few more moments.

We attack each other at the exact same time, so quickly that Liesel still has her seatbelt on and gets pulled back as she grabs for my neck.

I laugh and unbuckle her before I pull her hard across the seat and onto my lap. I grab her neck and kiss her lips with everything I’ve been holding back since I woke her up with coffee this morning.

“I thought we were done. I thought you wanted nothing to do with me,” she says hungrily between kisses.

“I’ll never be done with you, huntress. Even if there comes a day when I can’t kiss you like this, I’ll never be done with you.”

I hike her shirt up as my hands run over her smooth skin, trying to memorize everything.

No, I won’t be so defeated. Why shouldn’t we keep fucking? We are two consenting adults, who—
