“What were you even doing there?” Beast curled and uncurled his fists as if they itched for violence. “Wait, let me guess, this was some kind of jealousy fit?”

Knight frowned, baffled. “What are you on about? Jake told me Elliot was leaving the clubhouse, and I thought I’d see that he didn’t drunk-drive. And then it turned out this shithead lured him in. I needed to intervene!”

Beast started pacing in front of Knight, oddly reminiscent of the way Laurent had, just minutes ago. “That boy is bad news. Was he witness to it all?”

Gray nodded, and Knight tried his best not to look his way. Of course he already told Beast everything. Like a good boy. “Don’t say that. He needs a chance. He has no one in the world.”

Beast bared his teeth. “That’s one fucking sob story if I’ve ever heard one. I will not see you rotting in prison if he has a change of heart next month and decides to go crying to the police. Listen, I know you wouldn’t have the heart to make him understand he needs to stay silent, but Gray can do it.”

Knight’s entire body stiffened, and his eyes darted toward Gray, who stared at him, as calm as he always was.

When Gray spoke, his smooth voice was soothing, even though it spoke of terrible things. “It might be for the best, Knight. I’m not gonna leave him permanently scarred. All you need to do is to lead him to my workroom so that he doesn’t make a fuss. We’ll let him go eventually.”

Knight’s gaze darted between Gray and Beast, and he immediately remembered that moment in the cabin when Elliot pushed into his arms, so trusting that pain and humiliation were now over. That he would be safe with Knight. His lips were the sweetest reward Knight could have gotten. And now his own brothers demanded he broke such trust? Considering Elliot’s record he would have still crawled back to Knight’s feet like a kicked puppy, but that was not how Knight did things.

“Are you fucking joking? I didn’t save his life tonight to have him tortured!”

Beast spread his arms aggressively. “How can we fucking know he won’t rat on you? That guy is unpredictable!”

Gray nodded. “It’s not pretty, Knight, I agree, but he is not trustworthy. A compulsive liar who makes your family look bad on the Internet. Hadn’t you been saying this for months?”

So he’s been actually listening. Fuck.

Knight gritted his teeth. He did say all that, but that was before he and Elliot actually got to know each other. “That’s different. Arguing about history is not the same as ratting out the man who saved your life.”

“How do you know? You don’t really know him,” Beast interjected, narrowing his eyes.

Knight huffed. “Because it’s already happened to him before. I heard that scumbag say he killed Elliot’s father. And Elliot never told anyone.”

That made Beast stop in his tracks, and he cocked his head to the side. “Say what?”

Even Gray’s eyebrows rose.

Knight swallowed. “I overheard it through the window. He never ratted out that motherfucker. He can keep his mouth shut when it counts. And if you put your hands on him, you and I will have a problem.”

Beast grunted in displeasure, but Knight had known him long enough to recognize that it was also a sound of acknowledgment. “Fine. But we have so much cargo in the safes now that we can’t afford to have cops sniffing around the clubhouse. If he talks, you will be the one dealing with him. And there will be no excuses and no second chances. You will personally silence him. Understood?”

The for good was silent, and hearing Beast talk this way made Knight look to the tips of his boots. He understood that being the prez meant making difficult decisions sometimes, but it still made him uncomfortable to be stuck between his best friend and the guy whose life he felt responsible for.

“Clear as day.”

“Can I go?” Gray asked, and when Beast nodded, he walked past Knight, glancing at him in that unsettling way. As much as Knight liked spending his time with Gray, now he was more than glad to hear the door shut behind him.

A teeth-hurting scraping came from the bathroom and Knight covered his ears with a wince. “The fuck?”

Beast turned to the corridor. “We’re fine! We don’t need any more help!”

Knight stared at him, suddenly realizing what it was. Beast didn’t act at all surprised to hear the demon reminding them of his presence. A chill went straight through him like an icy bolt of lightning. “Does he do that often?”

Beast swallowed and looked up with his jaw set. “All the fucking time.”

Knight bit his lip, desperate to lighten the mood. “Even at night? When you go take a piss?”
