“Fuck, brother. You know she’ll drag me into it.” Razor may bitch, but he’s gone for her. There ain’t nothing he wouldn’t do when it comes to Raven.

“Sure, basics and then some? I’ll talk to her tomorrow about what she’d prefer. Persephone is going to get ticked at you though, you know that, right?”

“Please, lookin’ forward to it. I see flashes of her personality come out before she locks it down.” She gave me some of that after Razor left the room, falling apart, then putting herself back together before making a joke. Of course, feeling her body pressed against mine was a distraction. She was being careful not to hurt herself even further, but that didn’t stop her nipples from sliding along my chest, even with a barrier between us. Thank fuck she zipped up that hoodie she borrowed, and I know when I slide in bed beside her, it’s only going to make my cock ache more.

“You got it. I’m sure you guys have manly shit to talk about, and I’m tired. See you later.” She and Razor say their goodnights as if she won’t have him in their bed in less than two minutes. I leave them to it. I need to see if Ruger has found anything more. I’m also going to need to start planning on how to get Persephone everything she needs from her place, including making it known she’s not missing.

It doesn’t take but twenty feet to enter Ruger’s office. He may be our Sergeant at Arms, but he’s a damn fine genius when it comes to finding a honey hole of information either online or calling in a favor from a friend. And with the shit I need to know, I’d give a marker to make sure Persephone is safe. No one should go through as much pain as she has and not feel a sense of calm afterwards.

“About time you got here. I was beginning to wonder if you needed a nap.” Ruger is behind his computer.

“Brother, you bustin’ my balls because your woman ain’t here yet?” Everyone can see those two will wind up together, but that doesn’t mean Sadie isn’t making him work for it. Though, I think that’s because she’s so focused on her daughter and work while Ruger is just fuckin’ oblivious.

“She’s here but wouldn’t even take my damn room. Sadie and Henley are attempting to stay in a room in the common area,” he grunts. That’s where we keep people who ain’t family but are still under our protection.

“Tell me you got a location for Landers, then go see to her and what she may need. We’re gonna get more people in here, and that’s where Sadie and Henley are meant to be now.”

“Got a lock on him before you walked in here. Now I’m running some new software to see if there’s anything else out there. So, I’m assuming we ride out tomorrow?” he asks.

“You’d be right about that. Alright, go see to your woman and kid.” He scoffs but doesn’t deny it. Like I said, the only two idiots not seeing the clear light of day is them. I walk out and know exactly where I’m going. Persephone may be dead to the world asleep, but she’ll be sleeping in my arms tonight.

Persephone

I smelt Cain before I felt him slide in the bed beside me. After I ate with Cain watching me the entire time, not even eating his own until I was done, he had Doc come in and change my bandage into something that if I rolled on it, there’d be some kind of cushion.

“Know you’re awake, babe.” Cain’s arm slides beneath my neck. I don’t roll into him though, unsure of how my chest and shoulder would feel if it were hanging and not supported against my body. He moves onto his side. His other hand is pulling up my shirt, causing my body to stiffen.

“Cain.” I’m not sure if it’s a moan to encourage him or a groan telling him otherwise.

“Not doing anything you aren’t willing to give, but wanna feel your heartbeat beneath my hand tonight. Need it, babe.” Cain’s hand travels to my chest, where my heart is beating, pumping blood, giving me the breath of air I need to survive, and it has everything to do with him being my dark knight on a bike.

“Okay.” My legs rub together, creating a delicious friction, one that doesn’t go unnoticed.

“Persephone, you’re killin’ me. I know you can’t take me right now, not yet at least.” Cain’s voice is husky, and I can hear the underlying need in it.

“I know that, but it’s been so long, too long, really, and here you are, wrapped around me, giving me something I’ve not had since, well, yeah.” I don’t want to bring up the past and ruin the moment, especially because Cain just let out a growl. “And, Cain, I really, really want you.”
