“Is that even a question?” I tease, attempting to take my shirt off on my own but having issues with it.

“Come ‘ere, wild girl.” I do as he says, walking to him. I have a feeling all Cain would have to do is crook his finger at me, and I’d be doing anything he says, especially when he’s using them like he did last night.

“Good morning,” I finally say as he helps me take my shirt off.

“Mornin’, babe. You’re about to make it a fuck of a lot better.” He grabs my hand, taking me to the bathroom, where he puts plastic on the places I’m stitched up, and then Cain takes care of me in the best way ever, including washing my hair and my body. I figure it’s only fair to return the favor, which makes us want one another that much more, but even pulling out all the stops, there is no persuading him.

Saying goodbye to him shortly after our shower sucks, but I throw on the bra, shirt, and joggers that Raven must have brought in during our shower, along with a pair of slides. The shirt is once again the hardest to put on, needing Cain’s help, but when he attempts to get me to take more pain medication, that’s the end of it. I stomp my foot, he laughs, kisses me stupid, and then we walk out to the main room, where I’m standing with Raven now. Cain’s parting words are still playing on repeat in my head.

“Don’t worry. This is what they do.” Raven pushes a cup of coffee my way, then puts the creamer and sugar container next to it.

“That doesn’t make me worry less.” Cain asked me if there was anything pertinent I’d need out of the apartment besides the files Kyle keeps in his office. Everything in my room are things that can be replaced. The more valuable things, like furniture, family photos, and some artwork that my mother cherished, are in a storage unit. The only thing I asked Cain to get was my small jewelry box that held the jewelry my father gave my mother. Thankfully, the gold chain around my neck holding their wedding rings is still safely secure.

“True too. I guess it’s a good thing you have me teach you all of the tricks to the trade.” She winks.

“That’ll work.” I fix my coffee nice and blonde with a hint of sweetness, then it’s time to learn everything there is to know about being an Ol’ Lady and hopefully not disappointing Cain in the process.

This fucking pecker. We checked the apartment. No dice, but the dumbass didn’t get rid of the files in his office. So, those came with us, along with Persephone’s jewelry box, laptop, and a few other things I figured she’d need for the time being. The clothes and toiletry shit wouldn’t fit in the saddlebags. Good thing the prospects brought the van. A suitcase and overnight bag full of Persephone’s stuff was loaded up, and we left. That didn’t mean we found Kyle Landers. He wasn’t at work either, which I gotta say, I was almost hoping was where he’d be.

“Ruger, you got a lock on his cell?” I ask as we’re all parked at a gas station. It’s gettin’ late in the day, and we’re about to move it to a motel for the night.

“Nope, must have turned it off. He may turn it on later. I’ll get a notification. His last pinged location was his office, and we know how that turned out.” Scum of the earth running with his tail between his legs.

“Alright, I guess we’re bedding down for the night. I’m not gonna let this fuck terrorize Persephone anymore or make the rest of the club vulnerable.” I look at Razor, Ruger, and Bullet. The two prospects we brought with us don’t get a say until they earn their patch.

“Wouldn’t either if that were my woman.” Razor nods in agreement.

“Fuckin’ sucks, but it shouldn’t take us that much longer. This guy isn’t the smartest crayon in the box,” Ruger fucks up his euphemism, like goddamn normal. It has the effect of cooling down the fire that’s burning in my gut and giving us a chuckle.

“Christ, Ruger.” Bullet shakes his head, a smile tipping his lips.

“Whatever. Alright, I’m gonna call Sadie and let her know. It took a damn act of God to finally get her and Henley to settle in my room. The woman has my guts in knots.” He walks away, phone going to his ear.

“Razor, let your woman know. I’m gonna call the club to get Persephone. Next on my list is getting her a phone,” I grumble.

“Probably a good idea. From what I hear, Persephone is asking for pointers from Raven on how to be an Ol’ Lady. You’re fucked, brother.” There’s mischief in his tone.
