“Then you’re here because…?” he asked, tamping down on that elusive thing called hope.
“I came home.”
He blinked, stunned. “You’re…”
“Home. If you still want me, I mean.” She bit into her lower lip. “I walked into my apartment, and I knew immediately I’d made a huge mistake. I was so wrapped up in thinking I had to stand on my own, I walked away from everything I wanted. Everything that was good and right in my life. And that’s you. So I came back.”
His heart started beating again. Damned if he’d realized it had stopped, but now that Meg was here, back… “For how long?” he asked.
“Forever if you’ll have me. I want everything you said. You, me, this baby. I want to be a family, and I want you.” She stepped forward, and he was there, pulling her into his arms and sealing his lips hard on hers.
Relief poured through Meg as he kissed her thoroughly, as if he’d never let her go. The entire drive over, she’d been afraid he’d changed his mind, that she’d pushed him to his limit, that he’d turn her away.
She threaded her fingers through his hair and kissed him back with everything she had. When they broke for air, she met his inky gaze. “I’m sorry.”
He shook his head. “Don’t apologize for what you needed, baby. You’re here now, and we both know it’s because you thought things through and you want to be.”
“I do. I really do.”
The sexy grin edging his lips was one she could look at all day and never get enough. “Okay, then, but know this.”
“Hmm?”
“I’m not letting you go. Ever.” He lifted her into his arms, and she held on tight as he walked into the house and slammed the door closed behind them.
