Big comes around to open both of our doors for us. We do as we’re told, going up the stairs of the giant cabin that looks as though it was plucked out of a magazine and put right into the side of a mountain. Willow is pulling the door open before we can knock. She wraps Ames and me in a big hug.
Big follows us in, greeting Lennon with a handshake. “Someone followed me,” Big tells him in a low whispered voice. For the past few days I’ve felt the same way. As if someone was following me. I keep thinking it’s Kenton and that he is going to pop up behind me. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t wished a few of the times that it were him. But it never was, and I was left disappointed.
“Earth to Gabby.” Willow snaps her fingers in front of my face. “You there?” She cocks her head to the side, studying me.
“Sorry.” I force a laugh. “Let's see these dresses.” Willow grabs my wrist, pulling me into the living room where she and her wedding planner have everything set up. Drinks and food cover the coffee table for us. There are racks of dresses sitting throughout the room along with boxes of shoes. Lennon has spared no expense to give her the wedding she’s always dreamed of having.
It’s only been three days since Lennon proposed to Willow. Within that time, she’s gotten a ton of stuff planned already. We went wedding dress shopping Monday night right here in the same room. Tonight is bridesmaid dresses. Lennon had the big city shops brought right into their home to make everything more convenient for Willow. That’s the reason he gave, but I think it’s because he wants to spend every second with her. Bringing everything to her ensures that.
“We really only need to find you girls each a style. Everyone’s dress will be slightly different. Ames and Glory will be in silver with touches of red. And Gabby, you’ll be wearing all red.” The wedding planner Anna holds up the red swatch to show me.
“I love this color,” Glory says, coming over to give me a kiss on the cheek to greet me before taking the swatch from Anna.
“My colors are silver and red.” Willow chimes in.
“Why am I the only one in all red??”
“You’re my maid of honor.” She laughs like it's silly I didn’t realize that.
“Willow.” I grab her, giving her a giant hug.
“You’re my best friend. Of course you’re my maid of honor,” she whispers in my ear so only I can hear her. I hug her tighter as guilt fills me for not telling her about Kenton.
“All right, ladies. Let's start trying on some dresses.” Anna claps her hands together, springing us all into action.
Anna is good at her job. With only taking a glance at each of us, she quickly hands us each a dress to put on in a style she thinks will be flattering to us. She nails us each on her first try.
My dress is strapless, but I don’t need a bra since it’s fitted up top. The bodice is covered in silver jewels that end right before the waist flares out. It’s shorter than I’m used to, stopping mid-thigh. But I have to admit that it’s pretty damn flattering.
“Wait.” Glory stands up from the sofa when I come out to show it. “What the hell is on your finger?” Oh crap. I thought about taking off the ring Kenton gave me before coming here, but I couldn’t for some reason.
Of course Glory would notice it. She’s been a reporter chasing after a story since we were little kids. It’s hard to get anything past her.
“Pretty, right?” I try to play it off like it’s a fashion ring. “Got it at the fair over the weekend.” Glory gives me a skeptical look.
“Don’t wear it at the wedding or switch hands, silly. Lots of single men are going to be there. You won’t snag one while wearing it on your ring finger.” Ames wiggles her eyebrows at me. I realize I’m the last girl standing when it comes to our group. At least they think I am.
I have no clue what my status is at the moment. As much as I wanted to take this ring off and chuck it at Kenton’s face before I left the hotel room on Sunday, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. It’s stayed in place.
“My hubby has some people he’s worked with over the years coming to the wedding,” Willow says at the same time Lennon comes walking into the room. I notice Big and Glory’s husband come in behind him. They make straight shots for their women.
Watching them makes my heart ache, wishing I could have a love like theirs. I slip down the hallway toward the bathroom so I can change back into my normal clothes. I open the door and take a step inside when someone comes up behind me. I’m pushed the rest of the way into the bathroom.
