“Where are they all going to sleep?” she asks.

“We’ll figure it out.”

“I have another Pack ’n Play. I could bring that,” she offers.

“Sure, we could do that for Roan, and Carter can sleep with us, or maybe I’ll drag the mattresses to the living room, and we can camp out. That way, we don’t have to worry about rolling over on him, and if he rolls off the mattress, it’s not far to fall.”

“That’s a good idea, actually.”

“Go grab what you need. Maybe get enough for a couple of days. Who knows how long she will be in labor and how long I’ll have the kids.”

“You have work tomorrow.”

“I do, but we own the company. We can move anything we had scheduled, and our staff knows how to get a hold of us. All the more reason that we need a Riggins day care stat.”

She nods. “I’ll be quick.”

“No rush. We’re all good here.” I point to the three car seats in the back, making her laugh.

I watch her as she grabs her keys out of her purse before opening the door and jogging into the building. “Maddie, looks like you get to stay with me again tonight,” I tell the baby. I turn to look and find three faces staring back at me. “I spend night,” Carter says, pointing at me.

“That’s right. Who’s your favorite uncle?” I ask him.

“Uncle Marsh!” he cheers. That makes Madeline and Roan giggle, and before long, all four of us are laughing at one another. These kids are a hoot. I need to get my girls moved in and a ring on her finger so we can add a few more to the clan.

Chapter 22

Wren

“How was your night with the boys?” Layla asks.

“It was fine. They were angels. Marshall dragged the mattress from his room and the spare room to the living room. Roan and Madeline slept in Pack ’n Plays, and we let Carter sleep on the other mattress. Marshall was worried about rolling over on him.” This is the third sleepover we’ve had with the boys over the last few weeks. Next week, it’s going to be Royce and Sawyer, and they’re keeping Madeline. I’m nervous, not because I don’t think she will be safe, but leaving her for that long and overnight is new for me, and for her. In fact, I’m not sure Marshall will make it all night. I smile to myself.

“He would have kicked you to death.” Layla laughs. “That boy is all over the place when he sleeps. We don’t let him sleep with us, but it’s like there’s a party in his crib every night.”

“We took all the cushions off the couch and the extra bed pillows to build a barrier around him. We had the condo tore apart,” I tell her with a laugh.

“Marshall is so good with them. Madeline too,” she adds.

“He really is.”

“So, this is it,” Layla says as the elevator opens to the second floor. “So, there are three elevators. One only goes to this floor. One goes to all floors, and one goes to all but the second and very top where we all are. It took some work, but we eventually made it happen. The two that go to the second floor will have codes that the parents will have to enter, or they can swipe their employee badges. Only employees with children in the day care will have access to the second floor.”

“Wow. This is incredible,” I say as I take in the space.

“You know how the guys are. When they want something, they go after it. When it comes to their family, they’ll move heaven and earth, or at least they’d try.”

“Definitely,” I agree with her. My mind immediately goes to Marshall and how he dotes on Madeline and me. Layla couldn’t have described him any better. She’s right—all of the Riggins men fit that same description.

“So, you’ll have your own office. It’s this way.” She leads me down a long hall. At the end of the hall, she opens the door and motions me inside. “This is your office.”

I take in the space. There is a large U-shaped desk in one corner and a rocking chair with soft fluffy cushions. There’s a full-size refrigerator/freezer combo and a baby bed and changing table. “Layla?” I ask, confused.

“Do you like it? Sawyer and I picked it all out. We wanted you to have the option to have Madeline with you whenever you wanted. We don’t expect you to work the floor. The plan is to be overstaffed, so each child gets proper care and attention. We just need you to hire them, to order in supplies, make the staff schedule, schedule fun activities for the kids, things like that.”

“It’s really your position to create,” Royce says from behind us.

“I don’t know what to say. This is… incredibly unexpected.”
