It was way more likely the man was thinking, “Yeah, good fuck. Shower, bed, sleep.” And here I was assuming he was thinking flowery things about me as a human being.

I let out a scoff halfway to the bathroom door. Falcon turned back to me with a frown. “You okay? Was I too rough?”

Dammit. More mixed signals. “No. Um… no. Not at all. It was…”

Get it together, Kingston. Jesus.

“Really fucking good,” I finished.

Falcon’s face widened in a relieved grin. This was such a strange new side of him, I was taken aback.

“Yeah, me too,” he said before continuing to lead me into the bathroom. “It’s been an embarrassingly long time. I was afraid I’d forgotten how to do it.”

I barked out a surprised laugh. “Is that possible?”

He turned on the water in the shower and looked back at me over his shoulder. “You never know. According to you, I might have been too old to have a working dick anymore.”

Falcon’s body was muscular and fit. Even though there was some premature gray smattered among the darker hair on his chest, he was hot as fuck. The man looked like something out of military porn, the kind of scene where you got drilled by your sergeant.

The thought of him in uniform, screaming at me to give him twenty, made my dick plump a little bit.

Falcon noticed.

“Fuck, how young are you?”

“Shut up. You’re hot.” I moved past him into the shower, reaching out a hand first to make sure the temperature was bearable.

“You’ve already come twice tonight,” he said, stepping in behind me and sliding his palms up my back to squeeze my shoulders. It felt amazing.

“Keep touching me like that and I’ll be working up to a third,” I moaned, letting my head drop forward into the spray.

After a few minutes of silence, Falcon turned me around and put his arms around my back. Our wet dicks touched in a way that seemed even more intimate than the sex we’d had.

“Thank you for telling me about Paris and Elek. How it all started.”

I shrugged. “You didn’t have to reassure me about my family. That… meant a lot.”

His finger came under my chin and tilted it up. “Something about you makes me break rules more than I should, Kingston.” Falcon’s eyes studied me, his face serious instead of teasing.

“I’m certainly not going to apologize if that’s what you’re waiting for.”

Falcon smiled. “No. I don’t expect you to. I’m a grown man in charge of my own actions.”

I felt nervous suddenly, like this was the moment he’d pull the rug out from under me. “Is this the part where you tell me it can never happen again?”

Apparently, I’d lowered my eyes again because I felt him lift my chin once more.

“It should be. But no. This is the part where I beg you to sleep in my bed with me so I can touch your naked body all night.”

My stomach plummeted down and swooped back up again. Now it was my turn to smile.

“Should I make you beg?”

His laughter was sexy as fuck, and it made me grin even more stupidly. “King Wilde, will you please—”

I didn’t let him finish. I jumped up and crushed my mouth to his, throwing my arms around his neck and enjoying the wet slide of our bodies together.

When we finally dried off and got into bed, I was exhausted but giddy, stupid but happy.

And safe in the arms of someone solid, someone trustworthy and dependable. I knew it wasn’t a relationship, but it still felt nice being with someone who hopefully was more indicative of my future than my past. He was honest and lawful, the way I wanted to be, moving forward. Unlike the manipulator who still lived inside my head and taunted me from the past.

Just before slipping into deep sleep, a fleeting memory sifted through my consciousness in Elek’s heavy accent.

“That agent of yours is going to have a nice night tonight, Kingston. He will finally get his hands on you.”

Even in sleep, I couldn’t avoid the man. I only hoped the remembered line didn’t have any kind of meaning.

When I awoke, there were no longer warm arms around me, and the cool sheets of the bed beside me indicated Falcon had been up for a while. I wondered if this magic bubble feeling could ever be recaptured, but I knew it wouldn’t matter for at least eighteen hours or however long of a workday we had ahead of us.

The gala was tonight, and it was time to focus.

I got up and ran fingers through my hair on the way to the bathroom to get cleaned up for the day. When I joined everyone in the kitchen, the only indicator that anything had happened between Falcon and me the night before was the slight pinkening of his cheeks. He didn’t look up at me, but clearly he knew when I entered the room.
