“Feisty, are we?” He stepped closer to her and searched her deep brown eyes. “You look like hell.”
“Gee… thanks!” Sophie rolled her eyes. Kain had his longish blond hair tied up in a loose ponytail. A couple of thin strands were framing his handsome face. Of course he wasn’t wearing a jacket. Why would he? He was clearly cold in his black T-shirt and tight jeans, but he was Kain Svjetlo. He didn’t care about the weather.
“No, really. You do. Tough day?”
“Tough month, actually.” She sighed. What did he want, anyway? Their next private session was scheduled for Tuesday, an
d as sexy and dangerous as Kain looked right now, Sophie wasn’t in the mood for this. She just wanted to get to her room, take a shower, then grab dinner and laze in front of a B movie.
“Oh, don’t worry, babe. This is just the beginning.”
His smirk was starting to get on her nerves.
“Look, Kain… I’m tired.” She made to leave. “Tarini just hit us with the worst test ever. I swear to everything that’s holy, I have no idea how she comes up with those ridiculous questions. I just want to…”
His hands went to her shoulders, and his fingers started massaging them lightly, carefully searching for tension spots. It wasn’t as comfortable as it would have been if he were behind her, but it was good enough. He knew it when Sophie closed her eyes for a brief second and moaned.
“… you just want to relax…”
“Yes…” She snapped her eyes open. “Wait, what?” Since when did Kain Svjetlo understand her and respect her wishes?
“Exactly! That’s why you absolutely need to come with me to the Red Chamber. Alexi is already there.”
Oh, right. He didn’t. Typically Kain. She tried to shake his hands off her shoulders.
“No, Kain… really… I’m not in the mood.”
“Don’t be silly. There’s no such thing as not in the mood.” He winked at her, then turned her around and pushed her gently back towards Septentrio.
“Kaaaain…” She knew her whine would do nothing to make him change his mind. “Why do you have to do this to me?”
They reached the steps leading to the heavy door and Sophie refused to climb them.
“Don’t make me throw you over my shoulder, sweetie.”
“I hate you.” She gave in and let him hold the door open for her.
“No, you don’t.”
“You’re the worst.”
He laughed cheerfully and pinched her sides to make her walk faster. Sophie yelped and tried to get away from his wicked fingers, which led her closer to the Red Chamber. He pushed the door open and waited for her to sneak past him.
“The Mirror Corner,” he said.
Sophie turned towards that side of the room and spotted Alexi sprawled in a comfortable armchair, boringly playing with something that looked like… She blinked a couple of times and squeezed her eyes to see better, but she couldn’t be sure what the thing was. Kain closed the door behind them and his left hand came to rest on her generous butt.
“Would you look at that,” he whispered.
“Look at what? He’s too far away.”
Kain looked down at her. She felt his incredulous gaze on her and raised her eyes to meet his.
“Girl, you need glasses.”
“No, I don’t.”
“Yeah. If you can’t see that huge thing he’s playing with, then you need glasses.” He looked back to Alexi and bit his lower lip. “I wonder on which of us he’s going to use it.”
