That was my biggest mistake.

Christensen catches my eye, his expression filled with worry. He knows what will happen if we lose the Legion. The scales will tip, the Upperworld will be lost.

I open my mouth to speak, to make a declaration, but I sense movement behind me, then two large, muscular bodies by my side. Armin drops to his knees. “My allegiance is to the Vakyrie and the Guardians.”

“As is mine,” Miya declares.

“Mine too,” Agis says, hood falling off the crown of his head.

I glance back at Rupert, his hand still on his stomach. He swallows thickly and holds my eye. “The fates aren’t clear,” he says, “but my visions tell me one thing, stick with the Valkyrie.” He frowns. “Sorry, brother.”

Roland narrows his eyes, jaw set.

“And you?” he asks Marshal, the wildest of the wild cards.

Marshal’s green eyes flit over mine and the laziest of grins tugs at his lips. “Sorry, Valkyrie, but you know how I feel about gluttony.” He crosses the room and stands next to Roland, giving me a wink. “If the end of the world is coming, I’m going to make sure I’m having a good time on the way out.”

It’s a stinging slap in the face, but I choke back that anger. I knew from the beginning that he was selfish, greedy, and an all-around asshole.

We don’t need him to win this battle.

My heart swells looking down at the four Immortals surrounding me, and I gesture for them to stand. “I made a promise to my friend, the Guardians, and the Upperworld that we would do everything we could to stop the apocalypse, even if that means taking out the two of you.” I take a step back and glance at Christensen. “I hope you're taking notes, because we’re about to rewrite fucking history.”
