“Mediation won’t work,” I say, switching the phone to my other hand so I can rub circles on April’s back. “There’s no compromise here.”
“Mediation is a good thing, Mr. Fosse. I promise. This is the first step in avoiding court. Will you be able to make the meeting with your wife? It’s better for the entire process for you to be there at every turn.”
“I’ll be there,” I assure her because there isn’t a single thing in the world that could make me miss something so important.
“See you at two o’clock Wednesday in my office.”
The call ends, and April looks like she’s in shock.
“I thought it was going to be hard to wait until the baby was born, and now I wish I hadn’t gotten this letter.” The paper is crinkled in her hand, her knuckles white from gripping it so hard.
“Faith said this is a good thing. We have to trust her.”
“I do,” she whispers. “But I’m going to be a mess from now until then.”
“Then we do things to take your mind off of it.”
She bites her lip, the suggestion of what she’s thinking filling her mind.
“I’ll make you come once, but then we’re getting out of this room.”
She pouts, but I can’t give in any more than that. She’s avoiding her feelings by getting tangled up in me and that’s no healthier than living in them all the time and letting them drag her mood down.
“I say we get swimsuits on and head down to the pool before it hits a hundred degrees. What do you say to that?”
She nods, a smile on her face that makes me believe that she’s not as scared of the threat the Clarks pose as she was when she was first confronted by Cory.
April opts to save her promised orgasm until later, and we get ready for the pool. I nearly beg her to change her mind as she has me rub sunblock all over her body before she gets her suit on.
Her hair is piled on her head, her neck looking bitable and perfect. Her tits are swollen, possibly bigger than they were when I left earlier in the week, and even with the lotion I’m rubbing on them, I ache for a taste.
“That’s enough,” she says, swatting my hands away. “I’m going to be wearing a top. I don’t need sun block on my nipples.”
“It could get through your suit,” I say, reaching for her again.
“We’ll be at the indoor pool. There isn’t a sunblock strong enough to keep me from burning in direct sunlight.”
“Don’t forget your bump. Yeah,” I say, rubbing the lotion all over her middle. “And the tops of your legs. Oh and that crease right there. Turn around, let me get your butt.”
She shakes her head as she spins around, and admittedly, I use way too much lotion on her, forcing me to keep rubbing until it’s spread evenly.
“You’re a menace,” she says with a laugh as she spins, covering up her delectable body with a one-piece bathing suit.
“What are you wearing? Where is that peach-colored one?”
“This is what a mom would wear by the pool.” She shrugs her shoulders.
“A mom would wear? Have you seen Gigi’s bathing suits?”
She cocks an eyebrow at me. “Have you been paying attention to her suits?”
I hold my hands up. “Don’t pick a fight with me, April Fosse. I’ll throw you on the bed, and we’ll never make it to the pool.”
She bites the bottom corner of her lip, her eyes bright with challenge.
“You know I only have eyes for you.”
“Gigi’s bathing suits don’t bother me.
“They bother her husband and her dad. That’s the only reason I have any idea that they’re bad.”
“They’re not bad,” she says defensively. “Gigi has an amazing body. I can only hope I look that good after having kids.”
“Your body is perfe—”
“Ack! Stop! If you keep complimenting me, we’re never going to get out of this room.”
I change quickly—well, not as quickly as I can because April doesn’t pull her eyes from me—and we make it out of the room.
The pool is already busy, the kids getting the chance to play before it gets too hot today.
April smiles and chats with everyone, talks and plays with the kids, and I think this was the perfect way to kind of remove ourselves from what we’re going to be facing later in the week. I make sure to let Kincaid know what’s going on in case we get a call to head out. He assures me the teams will be fine without me even though it’s taking them a little longer to make their selections for the new members of Cerberus.
Chapter 37
April
“They won’t stop shaking,” I complain as I once again wiggle my fingers.
“It’s perfectly natural to be nervous,” Legend says from the driver’s seat.
I glance quickly at him before looking over at Nate who is riding in the back seat of the SUV with me.
