Sweet Revenge

Ted had a blast following the tour guide and asking a zillion questions, some of them really humorous and silly which began to take their toll on the guide about halfway along the tour. But the guide stayed professional and answered any of the inquiries that Ted and the others had as best he could.
After the tour, we decided to call it a day on the adventures and sample some of the local cuisine. I was starving. It had escaped me that I had not eaten anything since the airplane about seven hours earlier.
“Let me try some,” I said grabbing my spoon and helping myself to a big spoonful.
“Hey, did I say you could have some of my stuff?” Ted asked mockingly.
“Yes,” I replied. “You said it with your eyes.”
“You little Manx,” Ted said, his eyes narrowing into sexy slits. “You are going to get what’s coming to you. Yep, that is right.”
I rolled my eyes, really laying it on. “Fine. Here, you go.”
Grabbing my spoon, I dumped a big heaping pile of my burrito mixture onto his plate. He nodded and spooned it into his mouth.
“Damn, that is good,” Ted said. “I think it might be better than mine. Want to trade?”
“No, I don’t want to trade,” I laughed.
“So, what is on the agenda for tomorrow?” Ted asked.
“Why are you looking forward to getting back home that quickly?”
Ted shrugged. “No, but I’m not sure we can top today. It’s been pretty awesome.”
I grabbed the itinerary and gave it a look.
Ted laughed. “You are so organized. It’s kind of weird.”
“I am used to it because of my work.”
“Yeah, but it seems obsessive compulsive to me.”
I shook my head. “No, I’m just very careful with detail. Now, let’s see here. Oh, tomorrow we are planning to go do some golfing and then we are going to sample some of the dancing in the clubs. At least that was my plan. If you have something you’d like to change or some other idea, I am all for it.”
Ted leaned back and looked at me. “No, I’m just fine with what you have planned.” He paused a moment.
Finally, I said, “Spill it.”
A naughty look entered Ted’s eye. I was used to this look and God help me I found it devilishly charming and irresistible.
Ted took a sip of his merlot. “Well, in doing some research about the area I discovered there is some cock fighting nearby.”
“What?” I asked.
“Cock fighting. It’s where they set up a couple of roosters to fight each other. It’s great fun. Plus, you can make some action on it.”
“I don’t need action,” I reminded him. “Plus, it’s barbaric and sick. You would want to see that?”
“Well, I just think it might be fun and different. But I understand if you don’t want to go. But you did mention once you’d like to see some bullfighting. I don’t think it’s any different.”
I sat there looking at him. I had said that. It was one of those things that sounded interesting at the time and you heard a lot about, especially if you were on your way to Mexico, but upon further deliberation I realized that it was not a sport I’d want to be a spectator at either.
“I’d rather not,” I said.
We finished eating and went back to our room. Later that night while lying in bed I found myself thinking about the suggestion. Did Ted really want to see such a sick, disgusting, sport? I’d never really understood sports involving animals. They always seemed cruel and sick to me.
I closed my eyes and eventually fell asleep. I slept soundly and awoke to a bright new day. It was still just after sunrise when I finally stirred from my slumber. I’d been dreaming, but I wasn’t sure what about. It was incredibly sad though, I can remember that vividly. And when I woke up I was almost in tears. I didn’t have the slightest idea why or what had brought me down so low.
I looked to my right and Ted was gone. His side of the bed was empty. I listened carefully thinking that he might just be in the bathroom, but I heard nothing.
My curiosity got the best of me and I rolled out of bed. I was still naked as can be. The air was chilly against my skin, but it felt liberating. Plus, I figured when I found Ted then I would surprise him with my still naked body. That might get him in the mood at least, not that he’d ever needed much prodding.
He was in the living room sitting on the couch wearing his robe, reading a Stephen King novel, and enjoying a hot cup of coffee.
“Hey,” I said.
Ted looked up at me and when he saw my naked form he smiled. “Wow, that is a beautiful sight.”
