It was hard to act like everything was normal, when she knew tonight they would all be in bed together. It was nearly impossible not to drop the expensive china or crystal.

After what had happened in the resort linen closet, nothing would be the same again. They had both filled her full of their essence. They were trying to make a baby. It was official.

Sawyer had a game on the kitchen TV. He chopped vegetables and drank a beer, looking up now and then to catch a touchdown or watch a replay. He was an unreal combination of masculinity and sex appeal. He was a brilliant business man. And he was a secret gourmet chef.

Both men had unfortunately changed out of their tuxedos. Lily hung her beautiful designer cocktail dress in the closet.

Jack handed her a champagne glass. “Here, sweetheart.”

“Are we celebrating?” she asked.

“I’d say tonight is all about celebrating.” He winked. “Might as well toast the bride and the groom while we’re here. Arnie and Maria probably won’t miss us, but just in case.”

Jack was devilishly sexy. He had an easiness about him that was fun. He was the artistic one, commenting on books he had read or movies he wanted to see at independent theaters. He seemed to be the one who ran the vineyard. He knew everything about the wines and the types of grapes they grew on the land. A man of complete culture and light-heartedness. She looked in his eyes, taking a linen napkin.

“Everything all right? Do you feel ok? Were we too rough with you?”

She shook her head. “No. It couldn’t be better. I feel great.”

“Good. I think dinner is almost ready. I’ll go check on our moody chef,” he joked.

Lily giggled. She loved how they cracked on each other. She knew it was endearing. They had been a team for a long time. It made it that much more special that she was now included.

He disappeared in the kitchen.

They returned with platters of food.

“Wow. This looks amazing, Sawyer.”

He grinned. “I wanted our girlfriend to have something special to remember her first night in California.”

The way he said it didn’t make her feel anything but completely adored. They made her feel more beautiful than a cover model.

“Thank you. It smells delicious.” She realized he had gone through a lot of trouble to sauté the vegetables and sear the steaks perfectly.

Jack pulled the chair out for her at the head of the table.

She took her seat, feeling like a queen reigning over her men. And that’s what they were. They were her men. Only hers. They had already fulfilled their promise. They had given her the first try to getting pregnant.

Sawyer served each of them a glass of champagne.

“To unchartered territory.” He grinned.

“To new beginnings,” Jack added.

“And to us.” Lily beamed. “And our baby.”

The bubbles were fizzy going down. She giggled. She was happy. The night held nothing but promise.

She couldn’t stop laughing. Once Sawyer and Jack had a glass of champagne they were hysterical together. Jack told her stories from college.

“Stop, stop,” she cried. “I can’t laugh anymore. My abs are going to hate me tomorrow.” She gripped her side. “I can’t believe what nerds Arnie and Ben were. Why did Rachel marry him?”

Dinner was delicious. She watched as Jack took the plates to the kitchen. Sawyer reached for her hand. There was a warmth and tenderness emanating from him.

“What you told us today, about your childhood, Lily.” He bit his lip. “I didn’t know. I didn’t know anything about that when I made the deal. I was only trying to recover the losses for Kincaid-Rivers. I would never hurt you.”

She clasped his hand. “I know that. And I probably should have been honest from the beginning about why I agreed. But I didn’t know if I could trust you. I didn’t know if you did business with a man like my uncle what kind of men that made you and Jack.”
