Wolf in Heat (Mated for Life 2) - Page 26

David watched the girl’s eyes slowly turn blue again, the bear not coming forward. Her body seemed to ripple though. Fur appeared and disappeared.

“I … I don’t remember.”

Her voice came out in a growl, sounding more feral than human.

David stayed perfectly still, but her gaze went straight to him, and she instantly went into an attack posture, springing to all fours.

Heather moved in front of him, sitting back down, hiding him from the girl. Was she a girl? A woman?

“That’s okay. You don’t remember your name. That’s fine. You’ve had an awful experience.”

“He needs to leave.”

“David’s my mate,” Heather said. “He won’t harm you. He’s here with me.”

“Mate?”

“Yes. He’s like the boyfriend that will never leave. My husband.”

“He stinks.”

“We’re wolves.”

The girl’s head twitched to the side. “Wolves?”

“Yes.”

“Why do you smell differently to him?” the girl asked.

“I do?”

“Yes. You don’t smell … scary.”

“I have no idea,” Heather said. “I normally smell the same.”

David shed his wolf so that he was just a naked man sitting on the ground. With Heather in front of him, his personals were all hidden away. “You do smell differently.”

The girl jerked back. “What did you do? How did you do that?”

“Easy. Calm down, sweetheart. It’s fine. We’re not here to hurt you. You see, you have a special gift. One I’m sure is scary and you have so many questions because you don’t know what’s happening, but we’re here to help,” Heather said.

“I … I … I’m disgusting.” The girl pressed her hands to her face and sniffled. “They kicked me out, and I went for a walk and then I was this thing. I was … what is the matter with me?” She sobbed out each word.

“Can I come closer?” Heather asked.

“That’s not a good idea,” David warned.

“She won’t hurt me. Will you?”

“I don’t know. I can’t control it. It keeps coming back. It’s trying to kill me,” the girl said.

“It’s not.” Heather moved a little closer. “Your bear is afraid because you are. It’s not trying to kill you. It’s trying to save you.”

The girl shook her head. “No. Look what it does to me.” She held her arms up to show the scratches.

Heather got even closer and David tried to stop her, but she began to crawl toward the young woman.

“No, it isn’t hurting you. It’s saving you, trying to. You’re letting it know through your fear that you’re afraid and it’s trying to hurt what’s hurting you. You’re afraid of yourself. You don’t have to be.”

Heather was too close now.

One swipe and the bear would kill her.

David tensed.

“Look at me,” Heather said.

The girl began to panic, and he knew why. Caleb, Reese, Brian, Mika, and Joe had found them.

They were close and as they advanced, whatever calm the girl had was starting to wear thin. She began to lose control and with Heather so close, he couldn’t risk her getting hurt.

“Stop!” Heather released a growl, turning her back to the bear, to face the forest.

His mate looked ready to murder, all for the sake of the she-bear.

David had never been prouder of his mate than he was at that moment.

Chapter Eight

“Everything okay?”

“Yeah, she’s still out cold. Poor thing’s exhausted,” Heather said.

His mate closed the bedroom door behind her and fell backward on the bed with her arms splayed. She was taking this thing too personally.

“I don’t like her being in the house. She said herself she can’t control her bear. It’s too much of a risk,” David said.

“Well, she refused to go with Joe. Where else was she supposed to sleep? Besides, the guys are taking turns guarding the room. Bethany put a cot outside the door for them.”

“Do I have a patrol?”

“No, you’re all mine.” She twisted to her stomach, staring at him where he sat at the head of the bed. “We missed the full moon again.”

“Yeah, I realized that when I was away. I thought of you every minute.”

She smiled. “There’s always next month.”

“I’d wait until the end of time for you, Heather.”

She crawled over to him and grabbed his leather belt. “You look so damn edible,” she said.

His wolf growled in response. It had been too long since they’d been together. He was coiled tight, so her little hands fiddling with his buckle was shattering the scrap of self-control he had left. He stilled her hand. “It’s been a while. My wolf may not be too gentle.”

“Good,” she said.

“Take off your clothes.”

She sat cross-legged on the bed and pulled off her shirt. Her big tits sloped out, naked and perfect. He watched her strip, layer by layer.

“Undo your pants,” she said. “It’s my turn to pleasure you.”

David wasn’t going to complain, but the truth was he loved eating her pussy and making love to her. Her pleasure was his pleasure.

He leaned back against the headboard and she reached into his boxers to release his cock. “You weren’t kidding,” she said. He was rock hard, and it was torture to sit back and not act. He watched her play with him, running her loose fist up and down his length. When she used the tip of her tongue to trace up the vein on the underside of his erection, he moaned and closed his eyes. It was wicked heaven.
