“You got it, Greg. Here comes your Uncle Jack.”

He turned and saw his uncle speeding toward him with a look of excitement on his face. “Uncle Jack?”

“We found her, Greg. We found Maude’s little girl. Can you believe it?”

Thrilled beyond belief, he asked, “Where is she?”

“San Diego. I don’t know how the governor did it, but he pulled more strings and got what we needed. The man’s a miracle worker.”

“He’s definitely getting my vote in the next election.”

Uncle Jack hugged him. “In fact, the

little girl’s adoptive parents have agreed to meet Maude tomorrow. After the reception, the three of you come to the house and I’ll give you all the details. Where’s Maude?”

“On the dance floor with Grant.”

“Go tell her, son. She’s been waiting for a very long time for this news.”

The music ended, and he rushed to Maude and his brother.

When he got next to them, he pulled her in close. “You may need to sit down.”

“Why? What’s wrong?”

“Nothing is wrong. Everything is right. I have the most wonderful news, sweetheart. Now come over here and sit down.”

Grant looked at him with questioning eyes.

He gave him the thumbs-up signal. “We did it.”

His brother smiled. “Hallelujah.”

“Please, guys.” Maude sat down. “I’m sitting like you asked. Don’t keep me in the dark. Tell me what’s going on.”

“We found your daughter, sweetheart. She’s in San Diego.”

“You found my daughter?” Maude’s eyes widened. “How? When? Really? I can’t believe this.”

He touched her cheek. “It’s really true.”

“Oh my God.” Her eyes filled with tears and fell down her cheeks.

“We’ve been looking for your little girl since we learned about her,” Grant said.

Greg added, “Uncle Jack helped us by calling some important friends of his.”

“I didn’t even know you were looking for her.” She wrapped her arms around both of them. “Thank you. Thank you so much.”

Uncle Jack walked over.

Maude jumped up and hugged him. “Pappy Jack, thank you so much. You have no idea what this means to me.”

“Daughter, I do know one thing. You mean the world to me. And Carol, my brothers, and I will do anything we can to help you.” Uncle Jack kissed her on the forehead. “I want the three of you to come back to the house. I will fill you in on all we know. But you need to pack your bags tonight.”

“Tonight?”

Uncle Jack turned to him. “Greg, didn’t you tell her?”
