Chuck nodded. “Time for you to have a reality check, buddy. Tell him, baby.”
She leaned up and kissed them both. “The truth is, of all the men I’ve been with, you two are the largest.”
They all burst into laughter.
“If you’re going to dodge that bullet, tell us who shoots the fastest?” Chuck teased.
“I wasn’t looking at the clock.” She grinned. “Were either of you?”
They both shook their heads.
Lance looked at his friend. “She’s going to be trouble, Chuck. The kind of trouble we both like, don’t you think?”
“I definitely do,” Chuck agreed. “What would you like to eat, sweetheart?”
She didn’t even have to think about that. “I would love a cheeseburger. You’re going to like the Horsehoe Bar and Grill. She makes the best burgers in the whole state.”
“How about a shower first?” Lance asked, his eyes gleaming.
Chuck smiled. “You read my mind, buddy.”
They were scheming again. She just knew it. “Why do I get the feeling this isn’t just about cleaning up?”
“Because you can read our minds, too, baby.” Lance lifted her off the bed. “Dinner will have to wait.”
They took her into the bathroom, and she felt happier than she had in her entire life.
Chapter Eight
With the morning sun coming in through the window, Chuck kissed Danielle. He still couldn’t believe how lucky he and Lance were to be here with her.
Danielle’s eyes fluttered open. “What time is it?”
Lance yawned and picked up his Rolex from the nightstand. “Eight-thirty.”
“I started a bath for you, Danielle.” He kissed her again, enjoying the softness of her lips. “I want you to get in and soak while Lance and I rustle up some food for us.”
She stretched her arms over her head. “I need to help you cook.”
Lance gave her a quick kiss on the forehead. “I’m with Chuck on this, darlin’. You have eggs?”
“Yes.”
“Bacon or sausage?”
“Both.”
“Breakfast is my favorite meal.” Lance wasn’t lying. Once he’d devoured three stacks of pancakes in one sitting back in college. “We can handle ourselves fine in your kitchen. You just relax.”
“Are you sure?” She grinned, making her look even more beautiful. “I don’t want you two thinking I’m lazy. Besides, you’re my guests, not the other way around.”
“You. Bath. Us. Kitchen.” Chuck brushed the hair out of her eye. “That’s final.”
He lifted her off the mattress.
She wrapped her arms around his neck. “I can walk, you know.”
He loved the feel of her body next to his. “I am sure you can, but I want to give you five-star treatment.”
