“Give me what you have and I will give you what you need if you have enough,” Ethel said.
Black showed her the laptop and brought out some printed copies of e-mails that his team had extracted from it.
“Looks to be in order,” she said. “I heard Mitrofanov is back in town.”
“He is,” Dylan said. “I’m ready to take down that asshole.”
“Not alone,” Black interjected. “He’s not alone. Ever. We need a whole team.”
“This is my town, Black. Not yours. I’m still in charge,” Jason said. “But I agree. Dylan, Matt, Sean, and Black, raise your right hands. Repeat after me.”

bsp; “Hold on,” Jena said. “What about me? I have a gun.”
“Yes, you do, dear, but I want you to stay with me. Let these men handle this,” Ethel said in a tone that was commanding. “One thing I’ve learned over my life is to know when to let the men do their jobs.”
“But I can take care of myself.”
“Yes, I can see that. But you have Kimmie to think about, don’t you?”
He could see that Ethel’s words had turned Jena around, but her face showed concern. She looked at Matt and him. “Please be careful.”
“Honey, don’t worry,” Matt told her. “We’ll be right back with the scumbag.”
“Now that that’s settled, let me continue. Gentlemen, repeat after me. I do solemnly swear to…” As Jason continued with the oath that would deputize them, Sean looked at Jena. Lunceford was going to a cage that could hold him and Mitrofanov was about to get sent away for good.
He walked out of the sheriff’s office with Matt and the other men.
Jena’s nightmare was about to be completely over.
Chapter Twenty
Keeping his eyes on every window of the house, Matt followed Nicole and Jason up to Mitrofanov’s front door.
They all had their guns out and Jason held the warrant in his free hand.
He steadied his breathing, scanning every direction for any movement.
Dylan, Sean, and Black had gone around back in case the mobster or any of his cohorts tried to escape.
Jason pounded on the door, and they all waited for it to open.

Jena’s heart was racing. Please, God, take care of them.
“Honey, your guys are very well trained,” Ethel told her. “They’ll be safe. You’ll see. They know what they’re doing.”
“I know they do, but Mitrofanov is a monster.” Her anxiety was at an all-time high, which was saying something given all she’d gone through.
She heard the door open in the exterior office where Shannon worked.
Surely, they aren’t back already.

Sean motioned silently to Dylan and Black that his side of the house was clear. No Russian mobsters.
