“That’s great,” Patrick said. “Gary is a good man. His wife died years ago. It’s time he got his happily ever after.”

She nodded, glad that her mom and Gary had found each other.

Paris opened the door. “Doctor Ryder says your time is up. The line has doubled since you came in.”

“Tell him to relax. I’m the patient. I love seeing my friends. It’s the best medicine a woman could ask for. Jena, be sure to bring Kimmie and your mom to the party.”

“I will.”

“What about us?” Matt teased. “Sean and I are still invited, too, aren’t we?”

“It wouldn’t be a party without Destiny’s favorite Texans,” Sam said.

“We’ll be there,” Sean said.

“In costume,” Patrick demanded.

“Yes, in costume. All of us,” Jena answered. “I’m not sure what, but I bet Megan can help me pull something together.”

Jena walked into the O’Leary mansion with Kimmie and her two wonderful men. Her mom and Gary had come earlier. She couldn’t wait to see what the happy couple had chosen to come as. Her mom had been so secretive about it, dressing at the Knight Mansion instead of back home.

The place was decked out in a whimsical version of Halloween. More fun than scary, though she’d been told that the basement had been turned into a haunted house for the older kids and adults.

“You look amazing,” Megan said, running up to her. “I told you that Robin Hood and her Merry Men would be a hit. Look at all the smiles.” She pointed to the loving Destonians around the space turning around, smiling and giving them their nods of approval.

“I couldn’t have done it without you.” She hugged her friend.

Megan bent down and hugged Kimmie. “You are the prettiest Maid Marion I’ve ever seen.”

Kimmie kissed her on the cheek. “Thank you, Aunt Megan.”

“Oh my,” Megan said. “Who told you to call me that, baby? I love it.”

“My mommy said it would be okay. Is it okay with you?”

She hugged her again. “More than okay, Kimmie. You’re going to have a little cousin before too long to play with.”

“A girl cousin, right?”

Megan smiled. “Maybe. I hope she’s as pretty as you.”

“Me, too. No boys. They’re not pretty.”

“One day you’ll change your mind about that, I bet. But until then, I’ve got my fingers crossed for a little girl, too.”

Kimmie held up her hands and crossed her fingers. “Me, too, Aunt Megan.”

Jena’s mom and Gary came up beside her dressed as Cleopatra and Marc Antony. “Honey, you look so cute,” she told Kimmie. “All of you do. Gary, what do you think of our family?”

“Sean makes a pretty good Friar Tuck.” Gary turned to Matt. “Are you Little John.”

“That’s what I’m trying to pull off.”

“You nailed it.” Gary bent down. “But none of you hold a candle to Maid Marion. Kimmie is the best.”

“Yes, she is,” Sean and Matt said in unison.
