“You got it, Sheriff.”
Moments later, the rest of Shannon’s Eight arrived.
After Nicole, Matt, Sean, and Jena were brought up to speed, Brown finished the briefing. “Once we get a lock on anything, I will send Dylan, Matt, and Sean to extract our targets.”
Mitrofanov had made Jason’s life hell the past several months. He wasn’t about to miss seeing the motherfucker’s arrest. “I want to be part of that mission, Brown.”
“I was hoping you would.” After she advised them what the next steps would be in the mission, now dubbed Diamond Sweep, the meeting ended.
They all shook each other’s hands. They were a team now with a common enemy. It felt good to be part of such a capable group.
Jason turned to their new boss. “Brown, could I speak with you for a moment?”
“What’s up, Sheriff?”
“Dylan has been helping me with a stalker situation, but I think you have more resources than he does.”
“Not sure I can help you with local issues, Jason.”
“It might not be local. In fact, it might actually help with this mission.”
She raised her eyebrows. “How?”
“I have reason to believe the stalker might be Kip Lunceford.”
Chapter Eight
Phoebe held Lucas’s hand as they stood outside the chapel. He’d just returned from his overnight stay at the Boys Ranch. She’d enjoyed her time with Mitchell, but she’d missed Lucas. “I’m so glad Jena wanted to be married here.” They’d arrived early with Mitchell, since his band was providing the music. Wolfe Mayhem was inside setting up.
Gazing at the view from this elevation, she could see Destiny down below. “It’s absolutely breathtaking. I love your chapel.”
He looked stunning in his suit and cowboy boots. “Thank you, baby. I love it, too.”
“I remember you showing me drawings of it on a napkin at my parents’ diner when we were still in high school.”
“I still have them.”
She squeezed his hand. “This is your dream come true.”
“Yes, it is, but the real dream for me is you, Phoebe. Being with you forever.”
She kissed him on the steps of the little brick chapel he’d designed. “Let’s go inside.”
“After you, honey.” He opened the door for her.
“Lucas, it’s even more beautiful inside,” she said, gazing at the all-white interior, coupled with warm neutrals and cool grays. The place looked heavenly. “I love your chapel.”
He smiled broadly. “It’s not mine, baby. It’s Destiny’s, hence the name.”
“Destiny’s Little Mountain Chapel. Nice name.”
“Ethel’s choice. She’s funding all my buildings, except for the Boys Ranch and the Clinic. She gets to pick the names.”
“The town has never looked better.” Her pride for Lucas was enormous. “Your fingerprints are everywhere. The renovations and the new buildings are going to make Destiny the jewel of Colorado.”
Mitchell stood next to Big Jim by the mixer.
Godric and Hank were strapping on their instruments.
