She vowed to take one step at a time and to look for an opportunity to escape.
If they took off the hood, she would be able to see.
If they took off the gag, she’d be able to scream.
Right now, she had to wait and stay calm.
Breathe.
The engine stopped.
Now, she could hear her kidnappers.
“Time to get our package to the boss,” one of them said in a thick Russian accent.
Boss? She needed information. The more she could learn the better her chances of getting out alive.
The mobsters exited the car with two door slams that shook the entire vehicle.
She heard the trunk lid open.
The hood came off.
Her eyes took a second to focus.
The bald one with two arms full of tats grinned wickedly. “How was the ride, miss?”
“Be careful with this one, Karl.” The other bastard had a head full of hair. There was a deep, dark scar that ran from the bottom of his right eye and down his cheek. “Look at the fire in our little sparrow’s eyes.”
Karl grinned. “She’s definitely a fighter, Vlad.”
Damn right, I am.
Fighting the trembles inside her, she made a vow to herself.
I will not die today.

6:59 p.m., Friday – TBK Tower, Destiny, Colorado
Dylan’s pulse was hot in his veins. Time to go get her back. Time to kill the motherfucker who took her away.
The Texans, Matt Dixon and Sean MacCabe, two former CIA associates he’d worked with in the field years ago, walked into the conference room with Scott’s brother Eric. Following close behind were Erica’s brothers and Nicole.
“Have you found our sister?” Sawyer rushed in, worry all over his face.
“We have three possibilities,” Jason told them. “Dylan thinks he’s in charge here, but he’s not. I am. I’m the law.”
He liked Jason. “You’re way out of your league here, Sheriff. Whoever has taken Erica is a professional. Whoever sent the ransom note is also. If she has any chance of survival, this has to be handled by the best, and the best happens to be me and the Texans.”
“Fine, but you better know I’m the one with the badge.”
Dylan respected Jason’s authority, but this was Erica. She was too important to him to let anyone else take the lead. “Sheriff, you and Matt can go to one location.”
“You’re not going to get my sister without me and Sawyer.” By the look on Reed’s face, he knew the man meant business.
Sawyer nodded his agreement.
