‘Question?’
‘I asked you to marry me. It would be nice to have an answer.’
Emma felt as if she were walking on air. ‘I thought the answer was obvious. I’ve already told you I love you. The answer is yes, of course. A huge yes. A massive yes.’
He slid his hand into his pocket and pulled out a box. Flipping open the lid, he removed a flawless diamond ring. ‘Just so that you can’t change your mind, I bought you this.’
Emma gaped. ‘It’s … huge.’
‘I want other men to be able to see from a distance that you’re mine.’
She gave a choked laugh as he slid it onto her finger. ‘They can probably see it from Zubran. It’s—’ she felt overwhelmed, not just by the ring but by the sentiment behind it ‘—it’s beautiful, Lucas but I think I’m too scared to wear anything this valuable. I’ll need a bodyguard.’
‘You have me.’ Lucas lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it. ‘And I’m going to build you a house that will keep you and the ring safe, but in the meantime how would you feel about taking the whole family to Sicily for a holiday?’
‘Sicily?’
‘I owe a certain little girl a playhouse. It’s a small price to pay for what she did for me,’ he said in a husky voice and Emma blinked back the tears that clouded her vision.
‘I think a holiday in Sicily sounds perfect.’
