Thankfully, someone heard my cries for help. I knew what would happen once he got me out of the public eye and in his vehicle. A shiver runs through my body at that thought. Cole’s eyes darken, and I hear him say, “Thanks. See you in a few minutes.” Then he’s pressing a button and putting his phone away.

“Monroe will be here in a few minutes. I want your statement on file, but with the way you’re breathing, I need you upstairs sooner rather than later. I’m putting it out there now, so you’re not embarrassed. Rage was on his way inside to grab a bite to eat when he heard your screams. Something you gotta know about Rage, his momma was abused in front of his eyes when he was a boy and couldn’t do dick about it. I have a feelin’ he’s gonna take you under his wing in a brotherly way. That means you have not only me on your side, but you have the whole club at your back.” He’s not asking me to be okay with this. In fact, he’s assuming I will be.

“I can’t ask you guys to do all of this, Cole. It’s too much. What if he comes back on you all and retaliates? I mean, I’m lucky my parents know how to deal with him.” I think back to the day my mom and dad called to let me know that Brad realized I was gone when he got home from work. He was pounding on their door. The minute my mom opened it, he had his fists raised, but Daddy had his shotgun cocked and loaded, aiming at his face. Brad left and no one heard a word from him afterwards. Even if he saw them in town, he kept a wide berth. Even with Brad’s family owning half of the town, my dad is a force to be reckoned with and has different ways on how to deal with shit bags like Brad. And something tells me the minute I tell him what happened, Daddy will be calling in his own reinforcements.

“Too bad. You have us. Now, I’m going to walk out the door, give you and Monroe a few minutes to change, and then she’s taking you upstairs to radiology. You’ll probably be here for the night, could be more. You want to call your parents?”

“Shit, fuck, damn.” The words tumble out of my mouth. If I weren’t hurting so badly, I’d fling my body backwards and have a pity party.

“I take it that’s a no?” Cole asks.

“I’ll call them later. I’m more worried about my apartment. If Brad knows where I work, then he knows where I’m staying too, which means the place will be trashed,” I grouse, worried about what he’ll ruin, and if he finds anything with an inkling of my interest, well, that will be trashed too.

“Don’t worry about that. I’ll have a brother and his woman go over there, pack your stuff, and store it at my place until we see what happens next, okay?”

“Why are you doing this for me? I mean, I’m trying to figure out a motive, but I can’t find one. I’m going to be nothing but trouble, yet here you are, stepping into the fire,” I respond.

“You’ll figure that out soon enough, Fallon. Let’s get you better and go from there.” I nod my head, tired of even thinking for the time being. My eyes are heavy, my bones weary, and I just want to sleep.

“Fuck,” I hear him hiss out before my eyes flutter shut. I’m really getting sick of passing out tonight.

“Oh fuck, how bad is it?” Monroe barrels into the room while I’m trying to gingerly place Fallon on her back, worrying that she’s bleeding internally more than ever and her concussion may be even worse than I expected.

“Not sure. I’m going to let you get her out of these clothes. I normally wouldn’t give a fuck, but there’s no way she won’t ask.” I step back, letting Monroe slip the buttons of her uniform shirt off and then hearing her hiss when she sees something.

“You have to at least tell me what’s going on, Monroe,” I seethe, about to be done being gentlemanly.

“Dad, you’re not going to like this, but she’s in a gown now. Let’s wheel her up to radiology, and then I’ll let you know what I’ve discovered, okay?” Monroe’s voice sounds ominous.

“Alright. At least get fluids started on her first, and then I’ll get pain meds while you’re doing so. No sense in her being in pain when she wakes up.” I walk out the door, trying to control my anger, because something tells me I’m going to hate what Monroe has to say. There’s a special place for people in hell who can beat the shit out of women and children, along with a few other groups I can’t even fathom thinking of right now.
