“Have you really thought it through?”
“Yeah, I have.”
“Oh.”
“I like you, Autumn, and what we’re doing here, it stopped being ‘just some fun’ months ago.”
It really had. She couldn’t deny that. When she spent more time in Carter’s bed than her own, it stopped being just fun, and it became more.
Even Hilary, her boss, had told her that something more was going on, especially when they started spending more and more time with each other.
“I don’t know. We haven’t told anyone.”
“Denny knows. Hilary knows.”
“Not Summer, not my parents.”
“My parents are dead, so no worries there,” he said.
She wriggled, and his cock fell out of her ass. Rolling over, she cupped his cheek. “I’m so sorry.”
“I don’t want to hide this anymore. I don’t want to hide us. Summer hasn’t been around in a while, and I don’t want to pretend something isn’t happening, when it clearly is.”
She couldn’t deny anything. She already knew her feelings for him were not going away.
Their relationship had changed. She even had a toothbrush in his bathroom.
Placing a hand on his chest, she nodded. “Okay. Let me see what I can do. I don’t want us to hide who we are either. Moving in, that’s a pretty big step. One I’ll take after I’ve told my family.”
“There is no need for us to be like this.”
Autumn hadn’t him about how often Summer talked about him. “I know.”
“Summer and I are over. We finished a long time ago, and now she really needs to get over whatever shit she has.”
“It’s an unwritten rule, Carter.”
“Unwritten rule?”
“You don’t sleep with your sister’s ex. It’s against the rules.”
“I thought that was about your sister’s current boyfriend. I’m not current. I’m way old.”
“I don’t know. I just know you’re not supposed to do a lot of things. I don’t want to hurt her, and I don’t want to hurt you.” She tucked some hair behind her ear. “I’m just going to head into the shower.”
Climbing off the bed, she entered his bathroom and turned on the shower. She relished the sudden spray of cold as it hit her skin. Closing her eyes, she turned her face up, trying to clear her head of her worries.
Seconds passed, and Carter stood behind her. He wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing her shoulder. “I’m sorry.”
“You have nothing to be sorry for.”
“I do. I shouldn’t pressure you.”
“Carter, none of this is your fault. I asked for us to keep it private because I was worried about how my sister would react. I’ll talk to her.”
“I was being serious as well. I want you to move in with me.”
That was a huge step, one that meant there really was no turning back.
