Kingston fisted my hair at the roots, yanking my head back to look at them as he and Jayce both grunted and exploded at the same time. Thick ropes of cum spattered across my neck and chest, coating my breasts. It felt like it infused me from the inside out, the addictive magic of their desire better than any drug in existence.

Xero brushed my hair to one side and kissed my neck, his cock still sheathed inside me. The other two men gazed down at me with eyes that softened in the wake of a powerful release, deep sky blue irises and dark green ones gleaming in the dim light.

I was buzzing with power in the afterglow.

Power… and something else.

A hint of ginger and spice caught my nose again, something I thought I had just imagined earlier. Instinctively, I turned to look at the door that opened onto the hidden staircase.

Kai stood in the shadows just beyond the doorway. He stared back at me, his dark eyes burning in the dim light.

How long had he been standing there? Had he been watching us do—all of that?

Before I could ask him anything, he turned and slunk away.

What the hell?

Chapter Eight

As the days and weeks went by, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Why the hell had Kai just watched? He’d obviously been drawn to us, brought up to that little room by the pull that connected him to me. Why hadn’t he stepped in and joined us when he’d obviously wanted to? He’d been hard as a rock, I was sure of it. The thread that bound us was tenuous sometimes, but I’d been able to feel his arousal.

So why had he hidden in the shadows like that? Maybe he had just wanted to creep me out somehow.

But it hadn’t been creepy. It was actually kind of hot. I’d made myself come several times since then imagining him watching the four of us, imagining his cock straining for release. A little pathetic maybe, but since I wasn’t getting any actual sex from the moody-ass vampire, I was desperate for even that small connection to him. Hey, a succubus does what she’s gotta do.

I wished I knew what was going on with him, but he still wouldn’t talk to me.

It wasn’t like we had nothing to talk about. He had drunk my blood, after all. That seemed like a significant enough incident that we should have at least addressed it in passing, but he hadn’t even given me that much. It was like nothing had ever happened—or he wanted to pretend nothing had happened anyway.

By the twelfth week of classes, I couldn’t stand it any longer. I didn’t hear a thing my teacher said all first period; I was too busy trying to bore holes in Kai’s back with my eyes.

He must’ve been able to feel my heavy glare because he tried to disappear into the crowd the minute class let out, but I wasn’t having it. I followed him down the corridor, and the second he broke away from a cluster of students, I grabbed his arm.

“Hey!”

“Hush,” I growled at him. “Come with me.”

He lowered his voice, a flicker of concern lighting in his eyes. “Is the school under attack?”

I didn’t answer. If I told him “no”, he’d probably slip my grasp, and I was sick of dancing around like this. So before he could protest any further, I dragged him into a closet and planted myself between him and the door. He gave me a confused look, his expression slowly morphing into one of anger.

“What’s going on, Piper?”

“That is exactly what I want to know,” I shot back. I’d been rehearsing a speech all through Hiding in Plain Sight, but now that I was face-to-face with him, I just blurted out whatever came into my head. “You drank my blood, Kai! Remember? Months ago. And we’ve never talked about it. We’ve never addressed it. You’re completely avoiding me now, and I want to know why.”

He scowled, making a move like he was going to try to push past me and out of the room. I straightened my shoulders and glared, not budging an inch.

“No! I’m not letting this go, Kai.”

“Clearly.”

“So?”

He fisted his hands, looking like he was strongly considering violent means to remove me from his way. A muscle in his jaw jumped as he clenched his teeth, breathing hard.

I didn’t move though. I stayed right where I was, staring him down with my arms crossed. Honestly, I was so fucking hungry for anything from this guy that even the sustained eye contact as we glared at each other was fueling my succubus side just a little. It was sort of like eating a single grape when you’ve been starving for weeks, but what the hell. I’d take it.
