There was a part of me that clung to the weight of responsibility—but knowing I’d been sabotaged helped me to release the pit from my stomach that I’d carried around since I woke up in the hospital and heard she was dead. But the pit was quickly replaced by the horrifying reality that someone wanted me dead. Talia had gotten caught in the crosshairs of the evil plan, but it had been a hit meant for me.

A tremor rushed over me at the thought, and I turned my head to look at Gemma again.

As if she could sense me looking at her, she stirred, and with a slight push against the soft mattress, rolled over to face me. My eyes instantly dropped to her naked tits, even more gorgeous in the daylight.

I laughed and kissed her again. “All for you, baby.”

“Mmm. Maybe I need a check-up, Dr. Henderson?”

Gemma laughed. The sound of her chuckle made me smile. “How many times do I have to remind you that I’m not a doctor?”

“Just play along, beautiful.” I dropped a kiss to the tip of her little nose and she rolled her eyes. “Should I turn my head and cough?”

Gemma threw her head back on the pillow and roared with laughter. “Now I know you’ve lost it. Maybe we should start with a CAT scan?”

“Whatever you say, baby.” I grinned down at her. “As long as we can get busy in one of the exam rooms beforehand…I’m on board.”

“I’ll bet.” She pushed herself up and rolled me to my back, then lay her head on my chest and braced her chin against the back of her hand.

“You ever do that before?” I asked, sliding a curious glance down at her. I didn’t want to think about her fucking some other guy, but at the same time, I was intensely curious to find out just how naughty she was willing to be.

It would help me to plan ahead.

She bit down on her lower lip, teasing it between her front teeth, as she stifled a giggle. Her eyes sparkled as she looked up at me. “Oh, you are a bad girl, aren’t you?” I said, my voice low and throaty. I grabbed her hips and pushed her onto her back. The stitches in my side strained at the exertion, but I ignored the pinch. Pretty soon all the blood in my body would be busy elsewhere and I’d hardly feel my injuries. “Gemma Henderson…tell me how wild you can get.”
