“Considering what?” The little one, Dodds, puffed his chest up and took a step forward. I stared at the pissant and waited for him to make his move or back the fuck up. “Well?”

“Is that a question, because I’m not sure I understand it.” The little one opened his mouth to speak but I turned back to the other detective, Haynes. “I assume you do know that he owns a car that looks a lot like the one that shot my friend? In the neck?”

“And I guess you’re seeking retaliation?” The little one was determined to edge his way in to this conversation and I was just as determined to keep him out.

Haynes nodded. “That’s why we’re looking for him.”

“Yeah, me too. If you see that asshole tell him he better hope his club gets to him before I do.”

The little one laughed but Haynes barked at him. “Dodds!”

“What?”

“Shut up.” He turned to me, a question in his eyes. “Why is Roadkill after one of

their own?” Haynes listened and took notes as I told him.

“He’s a snitch and he was working with the feds. You know as well as I do, his days are numbered either way.”

Again the older detective nodded, his pen hovering over the pad. “Where were you three nights ago?”

“Here, like I always am. Why?”

“Because we asked you, that’s why.” Dodds wore a sneer as he leaned forward, his eyes growing wide with fear when I leaned in too. He was a pussy, just like I thought.

Haynes sighed like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and I imagined as a homicide detective in this city, it was. “We found Vigo’s body last night, badly burned. Looks like he lost control of his car, flipped it and got stuck inside before the damn thing exploded.”

“Shit,” I replied on a whistle. “Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.” I couldn’t help but smile knowing that Vigo was rotting in hell where he belonged.

“And you had nothing to do with it?” Dodds asked with his trademark sneer. When it was clear I wouldn’t answer he tried another way. “I heard you’re making life difficult for Stuart Roundtree.”

That shit just pissed me off. “Really? Did you also hear that he came here and tried to shut me down for not supplying him with information he had no fucking jurisdiction to see? Or do you bend over for all city officials, corrupt or not?”

I smirked at the way his eyes went wide and his nostrils flared in anger. He stepped forward, too damn close for my liking but I allowed it.

“Say that again,” he sneered like the reptile he was.

“Put down your gun and badge, rookie, and I’ll give you the ass whooping you desperately want.” I puffed my chest out until he had to step back to look up at me.

“That’s it asshole, you’re under arrest.”

“Yeah?” I looked to Haynes. “I’m pressing charges. Police harassment,” I shouted and pulled out my phone and hit speed dial.

“Tanya, I need you to file a harassment complaint against Detective Dodds. No first name, but I got his badge number.” I rattled it off to my lawyer but kept my eyes on that shifty fucker.

“Put the fucking phone down! You’re under arrest!” Dodds put his hand on me and I shoved him, which only pissed him off even more.

“Don’t fucking touch me!”

Haynes stepped between us, face red and pissed off. “Dodds, get in the fucking car! Right now!” The commotion forced a few of the guys inside the clubhouse to step out, making sure I didn’t need their help. Haynes held his hand up to stop them. “Not now, guys. Stay where you are so I can settle this without the bracelets.”

I held a hand up to let them know it was all right to stand down, holding my phone up to see that, like the incredible lawyer she was, Tanya was still on the call.

“Fuck that,” Dodds spat at his partner. “That asshole—”

“No, Dodds, not now. Get in the fucking car before you make things worse for yourself.” Haynes stood between us until the asshole turned and walked his stubby ass back to the unmarked cop car.

Haynes turned to me with a weary smile. “Pressing charges against him won’t make things better.”
