Thunderstruck (Providence Family Ties 3) - Page 68

Or maybe I was just being a romantic because I’d found my thunder after her lightning had hit me?

Not saying a word back to him, Santana went over to the bags and began going through them. An hour later, we had it all in Toby’s new room, and Remy knew what he needed to get still. He’d already ordered what he could online and would pick up the rest in the morning. Once that was sorted, Santana set the sterilizer up with the bottles that’d been used, so they were clean and ready to go.

The bottles he’d bought weren’t a good fit for newborns because of wind and colic, so Santana was going to go with him to get ones that helped prevent it. She remembered her mom saying it was personal preference, but she also told us Hart hadn’t had any issues or cried all night after her mom had started using them on him.

It was a whole new learning experience for me, and I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t committed it all to memory. Hell, Santana had even found Remy a pediatrician and was going to call them to make an appointment for Toby.

By the end of it, I was almost asleep on the floor next to Bronte, my hand on her stomach, just absorbing the feeling of her breathing in her sleep. I’d never considered kids, but now that I was, I knew I’d love them when they came. But I wanted time with Adrienne first. We were only in our early twenties, for fuck’s sake.

I admired people who had kids this young and even younger. They were MVPs for putting their lives on hold to raise them and for maturing quickly to do it, too. I knew I wasn’t mature or wise enough to raise one right now, but I’d sure as hell learn about them, help my brothers and Remy out with theirs, and pave the path for the day—in the very distant future—for when me and Addy had them.

Remy had been thrown in at the deep end, and at twenty-four, he was now a single dad. We all had his back, though, so he wasn’t doing this alone, and judging by the expression on her face at this moment as she gave Toby his bottle, Santana would be there to help.

Remy just had to accept it.

Chapter Fourteen

Addy

The worst of my work was over. It was all bells and whistles writing it, composing the instrumental part of it, and sending it in sections to them, but the changes I’d been told to make had meant redoing chunks of the song. It wasn’t until I’d watched through my computer as the conductor and his orchestra played the music that it truly hit me how much I’d loved doing it.

There’d be an orchestral version and a version by a band, and both of them would be used for different parts of the movie, but seeing a large orchestra playing it? It blew me away.

I’d done that. I’d created that piece of music. There were no words for how it felt when that epiphany hit me.

And then the conductor had turned around to look at the device that connected us on our computers, and he’d smiled happily.

“That’s the most beautiful song I’ve heard in years, Adrienne. You have a gift.”

I was blown away, and because Nonna was on another internet date with a guy, the only person close enough to share it with was Marcus. Sure, I could call my parents, but I was going to cry, and I needed him to hug me when I did it.

This moment was monumental, and if everyone else agreed with what the composer had said, it was a game changer for my career. All of the dreams I’d had for it could come true, and it was an unreal feeling.

Getting into my Jeep, I drove carefully up to the ranch, then got out and walked in the direction of the stables. If he wasn’t in there, one of the ranch hands would be able to track him down for me.

I loved all the guys who worked on the ranch. They were just freaking awesome guys. If it took Marcus time to get to me, I’d spend some time with Rocky and Gibraltar and use it to calm myself down, so I wasn’t a hysterical mess when he finally got there.

No man wanted a hysterical girlfriend, even if it was happy hysterics, right?

I was halfway across the courtyard when the sound of hooves came from my left. Before I could stop walking or get out of its way, a horse hit me, sending me flying. Unfortunately, I never even had the chance to try and protect my head, which was why, when it hit the ground, I was out cold.

“Addy,” a voice barked, just as something shook me. “Adrienne, wake up. Fuck, Gus, radio over to Liam and get him to bring Marcus home. Tell him not to say what’s wrong so he doesn’t kill himself trying to get here.”
