She gazed up at him, basking in his adoration, never wanting him to release her.
‘You are so amazing!’ Nik seized her and almost crushed her in his enthusiasm.
‘So are you,’ Carrie gasped, thinking how true that was, from the very bottom of her heart.
‘You’ve given me my life,’ he said suddenly. ‘Before I met you my life was hollow. I was hollow.’
‘That’s how I felt last night,’ Carrie admitted quietly. ‘And during the scan. I love you so much that I could hardly bear to be with you, knowing that you didn’t return my feelings—but I couldn’t even stand to think about life without you.’
‘We’ll never be apart.’ Nik’s voice was suddenly gruff as he pulled her down into the sports car with him. ‘You and Danny are everything to me and we will always be together.’
Carrie sank down against the comfort of Nik’s steady heartbeat, revelling in the strength of his arms embracing her. For the first time in her life she felt as if she’d finally come home.
‘The three of us will always be together,’ she repeated, smiling dreamily up into the face of the man she loved. ‘Well, the four of us,’ she added, resting her hand gently on her stomach.
Nik looked down at her, an incredible feeling of love and pride spreading through him.
‘Maybe we’ll spend a few moments on our own,’ he answered, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. ‘Just the two of us.’
