What fascinated him the most was that tremors still wracked her body. And she let out breathy little laughs or sighs or half sighs that were part laugh. He couldn’t fucking discern which and it didn’t matter. Because his body absorbed all the tingles and vibrations coming from her and he had a damn good idea what they were all about. He’d moved her in a way she’d never been moved before.

Okay, he’d fucked her in a way she’d never been fucked before. She’d said as much. But he honestly preferred the more poignant notion that he just might have reached deeper within her than anyone else, touched something inside her no one else ever had.

Christian wasn’t exactly sure where that summation—desire—came from and certainly couldn’t say it was a wise path to follow. He didn’t know her, really. And their association was a bit convoluted and twisted, what with her past being somewhat similar to his in River Cross, of all places. And the fact that she’d not landed the job with Rory but done everything in her power to impress Christian at the party.

Yet … there was a huge part of him—all related to a huge part of her—that told him she hadn’t used a cigar and feminine wiles just to land a job.

/> They’d sparked. The two of them, from the get-go. And he liked it.

When she eventually came around, she wiggled against his lap and in his arms.

“Your limbs must be falling asleep right now,” she said in what sounded to be a sexually satisfied tone. “With my weight on you and your tight embrace.”

“Are you kidding? All I really feel is your pussy still clutching and releasing me and all this silky skin. Goddamn, you feel phenomenal.” He kissed her neck, a spot that seemed to affect her, because she sighed blissfully.

She said, “You might have to help me pry my hands from the headboard. I’m having trouble letting go.”

He chuckled. “If you need something to steady you, just use me.”

She tossed a glance over her shoulder. Smiled sweetly, which made his gut clench and his heart trip over itself. Odd.

Bayli said, “You really know how to curl a girl’s toes.”

He eyed her foot, alongside his calf. Her toes were, indeed, tightly curled. “Hmm.”

“‘Hmm,’ he says.” She laughed quietly. Then she hauled herself up.

Christian hated every second as his cock withdrew from her body. Not a feeling he was at all familiar with, but something about Bayli made him desperate to remain buried inside her.

She gracefully slid under the covers, stretching out next to him. He bent toward her and kissed her. Then climbed off the bed.

“Hey…,” she said on a broken breath.

He stared down at her. “Yes?”

“I just…” She exhaled long and slow. “Nothing.”

Christian’s gut coiled. He returned to the spot beside her. “What?”

Bayli gazed at him for several suspended seconds. Her fingertips grazed his temple, pushing back wayward strands of hair. Then she gave a shy smile and said, “You just took me someplace I’ve never been. And you’re going to leave me so quickly?”

“Oh, shit. No. Not at all.” He kissed her as his heart constricted. Another peculiar sensation. He said, “I was just going to clean up in your bathroom. Not leave you.”

She stared some more and he could see her fight the urge to gnaw her bottom lip.

“Bayli,” he said as his fingers twined in her glossy hair. “If you want me to stay … just say the word. There isn’t anywhere else I’d rather be right now.”

She rolled her eyes, likely to break the tension that seemed to suddenly grip her. “Your king-size bed isn’t calling your name this very instant?”

He kissed her again. Then whispered, “Nope.”

Their gazes locked. She searched his eyes, though he wasn’t certain what she hoped to find.

A minute or so passed. Then she simply said, “Stay.”

Christian kissed the tip of her nose. “I was planning on it all along.”

He slipped from the bed again and tidied up, finding it impossible to keep the grin from his face.
