This seriously couldn’t even ride the line of an ethical dilemma. This decision was an unquestionable slap in the Dallas district attorney’s face.
No way would this turn out well.
Yet, Alec refused to give a single pause in his pursuit.
Thankfully, the old, dilapidated homes and buildings gave way to a more modern, eclectic part of Dallas. He’d read online that Tires, not so uniquely named, sat right on the edge of the Bishop Arts area. From the online pictures, and now in person, it seemed to be a fun, revitalized part of town. He’d been to plenty of these throughout his travels. None quite like this though.
When twisting through the neighborhood from a road detour on Jefferson Street, he’d doubted any sort of engaging artsy space could rise from the neighborhood. Boy, had he gotten it wrong. Letting his mind wander, Alec allowed the distraction of the restaurants he spotted to transport him. Alec inhaled the delicious smell of Italian food, saw a bakery that he’d be sure to check out soon. Why hadn’t he crossed the river sooner? There were so many new places to try. Then Gloria’s came to view. He remembered Reed Kensington talking about the place. A definite must try, and he made a mental note to stop by another time.
If you even live in the area that long after being fired.
Yeah. His niggling inner voice was a pain in his ass. The concern returned. Less than a quarter mile later, he spotted the tire shop sign. He should drive straight past, let this intense infatuation go. That would be the smartest decision. He was his own worst enemy, and ever since he’d waved his motorcycle rider off, his head had been stuck on the guy. Even sleeping proved impossible. Instead, he had waited an appropriate amount of time to shag his ass down there to see this guy again.
With a big fuck-it-all attitude, Alec whipped the car into the empty parking lot, pressing the brake as he rolled to the first parking space directly in front of the open shop doors. Alec shoved the car into first gear and shut off the engine while looking around for anyone who might work there. It wasn’t until he was out of the car, standing in the opening of the shop, that he pushed his sunglasses off his face and allowed his eyes to adjust to the darker interior. He spotted movement in the back of the larger than expected shop. A guy tossing a tire on a rack above his head.
Oh yeah. He knew exactly why this trip had been worth the risk. The man was just as stunning in the daylight hours as he had been in the dark.
“Hello,” Alec called out. He could tell by the quick reaction that he had startled his motorcycle man, who spun around, all that brawn tensing while fists formed at his side. Unexpected customers for a retail location seemed odd… “I thought I’d come by, see if you could change these tires for me this morning.”
The man never missed a beat, walking across the shop with swagger that was enticing and inviting, eating up the distance in a few long, sexy strides. He stopped within five feet of Alec, then he stooped down, picked up a rag, and wiped his hands as he stepped into the sunlight of the open doors.
Dear God, his infatuation kicked it up a notch to a full-on frenzy. The oxygen that once filled his lungs suddenly seemed scarce. He was quite certain someone had somehow removed it from the immediate vicinity. Alec couldn’t think, couldn’t come up with the words he needed, and that was a first. He’d never lacked in the vocabulary department before, especially if he was trying to get laid. Damn, those calculating eyes locked on to his and holy hell…
All thoughts…stolen. All sanity…evaporated as a mix of hunger and familiarity flashed in the biker’s aquamarine eyes, and for the briefest seconds, it appeared the other man might be happy to see him.
His pulse quickened and that made him lightheaded. When people said time stood still, he always thought that was a figure of speech or they were just full of bullshit. Until now. His biker was gorgeous. Taller than Alec remembered, tanner than he’d first thought. He was built, but not by a gym. No, hard work had created all that goodness. His biceps bulged out of the tightfitting vintage T-shirt. A trim, narrow waist led to the same thick thighs he’d watched so closely last night. Tattoos ran along both arms, but he wasn’t sure they even classified as a partial sleeve. His hair was most unexpected. He had a beautiful mane of chestnut hair that naturally swept off his forehead. The same color beard highlighted his face. Alec’s palms moistened, his throat dried, and his cock wept in his designer briefs. He clenched his hands to keep from reaching out to touch this man. Alec realized he must look like a fish out of water, because that was exactly how he felt.
