Uno's Truth (Devils Rejects MC 5)

I grab the cheap dark brown hair dye I bought when I stopped off to get Jimmy his treat.
“Where’s daddy?” My boy wakes up shortly after Shawn laid him on the bed.
“Hey, buddy. You don’t know me but I’m your Uncle Shawn. You and your mom are gonna come stay with me for a while.”
“I want Daddy!” He shouts in Shawn’s face and I rub my hands over my face. I haven’t completely thought this through. I don’t know what to say to Jimmy about his dad.
“Listen, I know you want your Dad, and this is a new and scary time in your life and you probably won’t understand a lot of things that are happening around you. I won’t bullshit you though. Your Dad…well, kid…he’s a real asshole and he doesn’t treat your Mom that good. He hurt her and made her sad all the time, bud. You don’t want your Dad to be mean and hurt her anymore, do you?”
Jimmy shakes his head and wipes at his nose as tears flow down his cheeks. Shawn pulls him in a for a hug. “Why don’t you and me see if we can find us some cartoons to watch. Yeah?” And just like that my little boy forgets all about his asshole of a Dad and starts talking to his Uncle about his favorite super heroes.

Webb Hollow is definitely different than what I am used to. My step-brother belongs to a motorcycle club that calls themselves the Devils Rejects. They are rough, take no shit outlaws, but the kindness they have shown me and my son, is tenfold any shred of decency I have ever been treated with. Some of the women give me dirty looks, but Sara says they will chill out when they realize I am not after any of their men. A man is the last thing I want or need in my life. I’m doing good just to survive right now.

I have been here a few weeks. Jimmy and I were given MaryAnn’s old room upstairs at the Devils Rejects’ clubhouse. She was a clubwhore who is now an old lady. It isn’t home but for now it serves as a place to lay low and get me on my feet. Shawn doesn’t want me to dance again, but I know the club owns a strip joint. I want to earn my keep. I don’t want him supporting me out of obligation because he feels guilty. He thinks if he hadn’t gotten sent to prison I never would have gotten into drugs and been mixed up with Jim, but I made my own choices. I did this to my life. Though I appreciate what he is doing in giving me a fresh start.
I was attending beauty school in Indiana and want to go back once I know that Jim isn’t going to come after us. Sara has become a good friend to me. Her husband, Hades, is the president of the Devils Rejects. He seems okay. A bit of a hardass but I wouldn’t expect him to be like Mr. Rogers. This isn’t my first time around bikers. My step-brother has been a biker long as I can remember. Always riding his Harley wearing a leather cut and getting into shit.
Even as a teenager he was raising hell. His daddy would take his belt to him, but Shawn didn’t care. He’d grin and tell our old man, “Is that all you got.” He took a beating for me a time or two. Said he could handle it, to dry my tears. My step-brother has always tried taking care of me, but it is time I take care of myself.
Today I have been watching Sara’s little boy, CT. He’s about nine months old or so I think, maybe a year and so freaking cute. I miss Jimmy being that small. The two of them just went down for a nap about twenty minutes ago and Sara sent me a text that she’s downstairs. I don’t even bother with checking to see how I look in the mirror. I spend so much time cooped up in this room with Jimmy thanks to the rain and cooler weather settling in.
Downstairs, this chick, Stephanie, invites me to her table at the same time Sara calls out to me. I don’t want to make any enemies and Stephanie doesn’t come off as being all too friendly. She has blonde curly hair kinda like mine was before I dyed it dark brown. She always has this pissed off—resting bitch face expression. I’ve heard her and her few friends talking about me. Trying to guess what my story is. None of their conclusions have
been very nice, but they aren’t far from the truth either.
I take a seat with Sara and her friends. I have seen them around but haven’t really interacted with them. My reception by the girls at the other table hasn’t been inviting, however I think I could see myself being friends with these old ladies. They’re funny as hell. Especially Amber, Terror’s old lady. She has dark bob cut hair that angles to the shape of her face and her makeup is flawless.
My cheeks flame as the girls make comments about Uno, one of the club members staring at me.
Harley whispers, “Damn, did you see that?” She’s the girlfriend of a guy named Reaper. She looks just like Sara with blonde hair; Sara has strawberry blonde hair that is more of a reddish golden color.
I glance around the bar. “See what?”
“The way Uno was looking at you… I don’t condone cheating but Uno damn sure never looks at his wife that way. I don’t think I have ever seen him look at anyone that way,” MaryAnn tells me, tucking a strand of her long blonde hair behind her ear. I think her old man is a guy called Cupid.
They have another friend, I think her name is Shelly, but she isn’t here today.
“Like what?”
“Like he wants to rock your world,” Sara tells me with a snort.
The guy moves on down the hallway and I check my phone. “Jimmy is waking up. I’ll keep CT until you are ready for him or whatever.”
“Thank you. You’re the best.”
As I get up I give the give Sara a smile and wave bye to the girls, I walk straight into the solid chest of the guy they said was staring at me. My eyes land on his and I suck in a breath. He has gorgeous green eyes that have flecks of gold and brown in them. His lips curve into a smile and I read the name on his cut, Uno. His strong hands touch my shoulders, revealing tattoos that travel from his hands and up to his sleeves as he says, “Excuse me, sweetheart.”
Our moment is short lived when that Stephanie girl starts screeching at us and making her way toward us. I dart for the stairs not wanting any part of whatever issues they have going on, but as I walk up the stairs I can’t get his eyes out of my head or the tender way he called me sweetheart. I’m sure he was only being friendly but still the attention was nice.
