“Is everything okay?” Tina touches my arm.
“It will be.” I text Sawyer and he says it’s under control, so I don’t worry Tina with the details. I am sure Camreigh will tell her all about it tomorrow.
“So um…this housekeeping job for your grandpa you mentioned what’s it entail?”
I scratch the back of my neck. “My Gramps is a hateful old buzzard who thinks he doesn’t need anyone, but he’s old, and since his hip replacement, he isn’t getting around like he used to. I want someone who can be around to look after him when I’m not able. There’s times when I gotta go out of town, and I worry that he’ll fall or burn the damn house down.”
“That’s really sweet that you look out for him.”
I shrug. “He raised me. He’s all I got outside of the club.”
“What’s that like? Being in the club that is?”
“There’s a lot I can’t tell you but we’re a family and we look out for each other.”
“Are you into illegal stuff? You ever killed anyone?”
“You’re asking a helluva lot of questions.”
“I want to know who I am potentially going to work for.”
“None of what I do is anything for you to worry about. The club mainly deals in moonshine. The less you know the better.”
“So you’re a bad boy with a big heart. You’re dangerous.”
I chuckle. “Why am I dangerous?”
“Because I’m a good girl and you make me crave bad things.” Her pearly whites sink into her bottom lip. The action is erotic, and she has no fucking clue how sexy she is.
“Baby, I’m no boy. I’m all man.” Tina smiles but it morphs into a yawn, and I know I need to call it a night. I could try to take advantage of the situation and seduce her, but she deserves better than that. Better than a prick like me who just wants to get his dick wet.
Chapter 5
—Tina
Matt: Tina at least answer me, so I know that you’re okay.
Matt: I’m worried about you. This isn’t like you. Please talk to me.
Matt: Who the fuck was that guy last night?
Matt: Is there someone else? Did you leave me for another guy?
I drop my phone into my lap. He never ca
red the whole time we were together. I was convenient for him. That’s all.
“Was that Matt again?”
“Yup. He’ll get the hint eventually.”
“So are you going to tell me what happened when Vegas drove you back to the apartment or what?” Camreigh singsongs picking at her bacon.
I shake my head at my best friend. “There’s nothing to tell. Seriously he gave me a ride.”
“Hmm.” She purses her lips. “I bet he did.”
“On his motorcycle.” I bring my coffee mug close to my nose and inhale the scent of caffeinated goodness. “You’re the worst.”
