“No?”

“No. They’re going to protect us. They want us to be happy.”

Silas takes me in his arms and pulls me close, just as his sister appears in the doorway, and a smile spreads over her face. I meet her eyes and she nods, content, mouthing the words: You won.

And I did. I won.

And more than just a house.

Chapter 14

Delia

One year later

“That’s two bedrooms down.” Silas grins as he stares at the white stick I just handed him. “Only, what? Twelve to go?”

“God.” I roll my eyes but secretly I’m as happy as he is and seeing him so content only makes me happier. “You’re insatiable.”

He sets the pregnancy test down on the dresser and pulls me against him. “I am insatiable when it comes to you.”

As he wraps his arms around me, I get that low hum of arousal that I hope never goes away.

“What did you think of the decorations?”

“Everything they should be. You did an amazing job.”

I look out the bedroom window and see the staff and event coordinators all scurrying around, doing last minute preparations for the Halloween party out on the lawn of the manor. They are all dressed up as zombies, and the sound effects coming from the speakers all over the grounds vibrate through the stone walls.

“You’re amazing at everything you do, as a matter of fact.” Silas’s blue eyes dilate, and I already feel him getting hard against my hip. “You are especially talented in certain areas.”

“Oh yeah? What are those?”

“Well, sucking my cock, for sure. Either with your mouth, your pussy or your ass. You always seem to drain me dry.”

“I don’t know about that. I don’t remember a time you have ever failed to…ummm, produce, shall we say?”

“True,” he answers, and I’m floating on clouds. It’s one year since the ball when things were at their worst, then everything turned into the best night of my life. Strange as it all was.

I bite my lip as his eyes drift over my shoulder then back to me. I’ve gotten used to the odd shadows and noises. The house has its own sort of life, but now that Silas and I are here together, there’s never anything threatening about it. I am constantly filled with a sense of comfort and safety.

I look around our bedroom, it’s the set of suites in the west wing where Silas was set up during the contest. Only, now they’ve been completely revamped and converted to fit our taste. The classic architecture and features of the house remain, but the furniture is warm and comfortable. The lighting is bright, accentuating the wonderful details that are everywhere.

Only today, it’s also filled with skeleton props, fake spiders’ webs on the windows, and the world’s largest fake spider, which is attached to the ceiling. Halloween has become my favorite holiday, and Silas gave me zero budget with the holiday décor.

For that matter, he gives me zero budget for everything. He helped me when we started redecorating the house, but eventually he just handed me the black credit card, swatted my ass and told me to have at it. If I was happy, he was happy.

I’m barely done with the west wing and the main living area and kitchen. But we have all the time in the world and as big as this place is, it might just take that long to finish.

He indulges me in every way. Silas Jr. as well. Our first born. I found out I was pregnant just before Thanksgiving last year and although the first three months I spent a good portion of my time worshiping at the porcelain throne, I wouldn’t give up a second of it.

Being a mother is not something I ever thought much about, but once I knew that a part of Silas and me was growing inside me? Well, I was all in.

Silas was insane though. He practically carried me around for nine months. Anyone that even looked in my direction, he talked like he was going to have a contract taken out on their life. He was not thinking straight, but his protectiveness secretly makes me happy.

His protectiveness extends to my family and friends as well. He moved my mom and dad into a wonderful house from their trailer in Florida. He would have moved them here, but they said they can’t take the Michigan winters, so we fly down about once a month in Silas’s new private jet, named The Delia, to see them. And he flies them up to stay in a guest house here on the property for a few months in the summer.

Silas’s sister Carolyn has become one of my best friends as well. She’s older, but she can pretty much out party and out last me any day of the week. She, Harlow and I have spent lots of time together, and Silas set Harlow up with a very well-paid internship and a future position at one of his hotels as an event planner.
