“As long as we’re together, it’s going to be okay,” I whisper. “I’m just worried about…”

“I know,” he says. “But that won’t happen for a long time. Xavier could die before then.”

“You’re planning something?” My eyes flash to his, my gaze filled with hope.

“I can’t promise it will work, but I have a plan in mind,” he replies. “If it works… we’ll be free.”

“Tell me,” I beg him.

“I will when I have it figured out,” he reassures me. “Until then, know I’m doing everything in my power to ensure Tallulah stays with us.”

“Thank you…”

“You don’t need to thank me, Sunshine. You know I’d do anything for our family.”

“I know we have so much,” I whisper. “So, so much to be grateful for. But I can’t stop worrying.”

“I know something that will make it a little easier for you.”

“What’s that?”

“We’re going to have another baby,” Heath smirks. “And we’re going to work on that right now.”

“Another baby?” My eyes widen. “But Tallulah is only a couple of months old…”

“You’ve been cleared by the doctors, haven’t you?”

“Yes,” I say. “But do you really think now is a good time to think about another baby? Tallulah is so young... I don’t want her to feel overshadowed by a sibling.”

“She’s a happy, healthy girl,” Heath says. “She’ll love having a little brother or sister to grow up with, Rain. We can give them everything. We can be a happy family.”

“I don’t know...”

“Don’t you want another one?”

I absent-mindedly twirl my fingers in Heath’s hair. I think of Tallulah with her vanilla, baby powder scent and her silky hair. The way she smiles at me and coos when she’s happy.

“Yes,” I whisper. “Yes, I want another one.”

“Then let me give you what you want.” Heath pulls me closer, his lips finding mine and pulling me into a deep kiss that leaves me breathless. “We start tonight… I’m going to fill you with my seed until it takes.”

The words of protest die on my lips. Just like that, Heath’s turned the situation around, proving again and again just how deeply he cares about me and how determined he is to make life better for me.

He kisses me as I whimper and I let myself go of the control I have over my life, placing the reins carefully in Heath’s hands.

I trust him implicitly.

And I know he’ll give us and our daughter the fairytale ending we’ve always dreamed of.
