She came back to earth to see a naked, grinning Duncan poised above her.

“You were saying?” he said.

“I hate you,” she complained as she ran her hands over his hips, up his sides and around to his pecs. She played with the smattering of hair in the middle of his chest before running her fingertips over his abs. “Never stop working out,” she said in wonder at the sight before her.

The chuckling brought her attention back to his face.

“Damn, you’re beautiful,” he said before his mouth met hers in a kiss that stole what little breath she had left.

She kneaded his back, working her way down until she reached his backside. A groan of ecstasy escaped her at the feel of his taut behind in her hands.

“I need you,” she whispered against his mouth.

“I need you too.” But she saw hesitation in his dark gaze. Trepidation. And then it hit her, and her ardour cooled. As far as she knew, he hadn’t been with anyone since his wife. This was a big step for him. Giving up another part of himself that he’d kept just for Fiona. Her heart split in two at the thought. He truly did still belong to his wife. His heart, his body, his soul.

“You don’t need to do this, Duncan. I understand.”

He brushed her hair back from her face. “You are a mystery to me, with that soft heart of yours. You can’t help but worry about everyone around you, can you?”

“I won’t be upset if we stop.” She wanted him to see the truth in her eyes. She wouldn’t hurt him for anything. And if that meant he couldn’t give himself to her physically, then she was okay with that.

His lips captured hers, sipping at them softly before his tongue snuck out to trace the outline of her mouth. Her fingers tightened on his backside, pulling him to her.

“I’m sorry.” She moved her hands up to his shoulders.

“Never, Angel. Never be sorry for wanting me.” His kiss was ferocious in its intensity this time, sweeping her away in a maelstrom of desire.

And then she felt the soft crown of his shaft press into her, and she sucked in a breath. “Duncan, condom.”

He stilled. “I forgot. I never used them...” He looked away from her.

She cupped his cheek and brought his face back around. “With Fiona. You never used them with your wife. You can talk about her.” She smiled, although her heart was shattering. “I’ve been living with her memory these past few years too, and I don’t resent the comparison. She must have been a wonderful woman for you to have loved her so very much.”

“Hell,” he hissed as his forehead met hers. “You humble me.”

“I don’t want to humble you, Duncan. I want to...” Love you. She wanted to love him, but those were words she would never be able to say. “I want to make you feel good, the way you’ve made me feel. That’s all. We can stop if you like. I really do understand.”

He kissed the tip of her nose. “I don’t want to stop. Let me get something to protect you.” He twisted away from her and climbed from the bed.

“The protection charm Molly gave me is in my pocket,” she said.

He shook his head with a smile, which was exactly what she’d intended. A few seconds later, he was sheathed and walking towards her.

“Brace yourself,” he said with a smile. “I’m going in.”

She spread her legs wide and closed her eyes. “Do what you must. I’ll just lie here and think of England.”

His laughter poured into her heart and made it feel like it would overflow with love for him.

“You do that,” he said. “Because I need to spend a minute or two warming you up again.”

“A minute or two?” That seemed a bit scant.

“You’re right. With the way you go off, we’ll only need thirty seconds.”

She smacked his shoulder as he bent over and sucked her nipple.

“Oh!” She gasped, threading her fingers through his hair and holding him to her. Her legs bent, and her knees clutched his hips, as though trying to pull him closer.
