“Come on, Drae. Pick up your pace, buddy,” Trevor muttered, keeping his rifl
e down.
“I won’t ask again! Where are your other brothers?”
“I’m here!” Allister screamed out. “Leyland isn’t in town.”
“Then that leaves Harley. We want to hear from him in sixty seconds or your brother Draegan is taking a dead man’s walk.”
Mac turned to Harley and shook his head. “Not a word.”
“They’re gonna shoot him in the back.”
“And they’ll kill him the second you say you’re here,” Nicholas said, certain of it.
“Why doesn’t Draegan have an earpiece?” Trevor asked.
Mac glanced over his shoulder long enough to respond. “They said he had to come out there bare. He doesn’t even have a gun in his boot.”
“Then he’d better pick up his pace. They’ll shoot him in the back.”
“Harley McCoy! You’ve got ten seconds.”
“He’ll never make it. There’s nowhere he can drop and roll.”
“Nine!”
Nicholas zoomed in on Draegan. He was mouthing something. “What’s he saying?”
“Eight!”
“Who?” Mac asked.
“Draegan!” Nicholas snapped. “He’s trying to tell us something.” All guns were trained on Draegan as shooters checked their scopes and tried to read his lips.
“Seven! You must not care about your brother, Harley. I’ve heard of cowards before but you take the cake. Six!”
“Draegan says start firing. Read his lips!” Mac yelled.
“Five!”
“Leave him alone!” A woman’s shrill voice filled the air. “You don’t want Harley. You don’t care about the McCalls at all. The one you want is the one who caused all this in the first place.”
Every man out there cursed like sailors.
“What the fuck is she doing?” Harley shoved the butt of his gun against his shoulder.
Fifty feet away, Draegan picked up his pace only he wasn’t walking toward cover. He was headed straight for Sable.
“This can’t be happening!” Trevor said, tossing aside his gun.
“Trevor. No. Don’t.” Nicholas nodded at his gun. “Get it trained on the old man.”
Nicholas and Mac exchanged a knowing glare as the woman they loved, the woman they so easily shared, walked out in front of two armies with very different views. Nicholas held his breath as she and Draegan approached one another.
“Wait a second,” Mac said, grabbing the binoculars and pushing them against the bridge of his nose. “She’s armed.”
“What?” Harley screeched.
