“What?” Draegan jerked to attention then and turned his focus to Brice and Serena.
He couldn’t have looked at them at a better time. Serena was laughing. Brice had casually placed his hand on her back and the flirting had begun. Draegan quickly set his beer down and whistled for the band to start playing.
They all laughed as they watched him make his move. He quickly intervened and asked Serena to dance, shooting the detective a scowl before leading her to the dance floor.
“Nothing like a little competition to light a fire under a man’s ass,” Gabe said.
“Or a nudge in the right direction,” Curt said, definitely referring to the past.
“That’s right,” Gabe agreed, leaning over and kissing Heather’s cheek and taking her hand in his. “If I’m not mistaken, you owe Curt the first dance.”
“Why?”
“Because I’d love to have it, but I owe him one.”
Clearly perplexed, she placed her hand in Curt’s and they were off to dance to the first song of the night.
“What was that about?” Justin asked.
“Sharing,” Gabe replied. “It suits us.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Neither did I, until everything came together just as it should. Now, I can’t imagine loving Heather any other way than like we all love her together.”
“Same here, dude,” Justin said, lifting his can to Gabe’s bottle. “To happy endings.”
“To the best of times with the most beautiful girl in the world.”
She flashed a smile as Curt spun her around. She then formed the words, “I love you.”
Justin and Gabe mouthed back in unison, “I love you more.”
