Julie backed away and sat down on the couch. “Go ahead, then. Call. That way, when they’re done with Hank, maybe they’ll pick you up, too. If you call them up and ask a lot of questions, they’ll have a good enough reason to suspect you of aiding and abetting your brother. Is that what you want?”

“I won’t hang Hank out to dry,” Duke informed her.

“I never suggested that you might, but I would hate to see both of you behind bars tonight,” she said, rolling her tongue over her lips and staring at his cock.

“There you go again. Making me hard.”

She bit down on her lip and suggestively said, “If you give a man something special to think about, he’ll usually see things through a woman’s eyes by the time the night is over.”

“Are you making promises, Julie?” he asked, tossing the phone aside and easing down to the couch where he immediately tucked his arm behind her head.

“Depends,” she drawled. “Are you spending the night with me or sleeping down at the county jail?”

“Since I have a choice? There’s nothing wrong with being greedy every once in a while.” He stared at her lips. “I won’t have to share you tonight, will I?”

“Nope,” she replied, swinging her leg over his hips so she could sit atop him and grind out a quick temptation.

“Will you let me do anything I want?”

“I don’t want to be tied up tonight,” she told him. “For obvious reasons.”

“I can do you dirty without making you crazy first,” he promised.

“How dirty?” she crooned, her lips a breath away from his.

“You’re a very bad girl, Julie Jenkins.”

“You have no idea,” she said saucily, sliding away from him.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“I’ve got something in the freezer. I made homemade gingersnap cookies today, and saved a little something for us.”

“You did?” he asked, his eyes sparkling.

She winked and disappeared inside the kitchen. Seconds later, she returned with a frost-covered plastic container filled to overflowing with gingerroot. “The cookies are in the pantry. But what I planned for dessert starts with what I have right here.”

Duke scratched the back of his neck. “What do you expect me to do with that?”

“With the shape of these, you can’t come up with a few ideas?” she asked. “I thought you’d know what to do with perfectly carved ginger fingers.”

“Hank will be furious when I tell him what he missed.”

“Then we’ll just wait on Hank.”

“The hell we will!”

Chapter Twelve

They didn’t make it upstairs.

Duke snatched the container from her hand and led her back to the sofa, but by the time they made it that far, their lips were melded together. Their clothes flew off in record time and were strewn across the carpet. Julie finally slowed down while Duke was pushing her against the cool leather couch but didn’t pause long enough to close the drapes in the great room.

He fed her his tongue, bruising her mouth with a famished kiss. His fingers danced between her folds. With a scissorlike effect, he wiggled three digits inside her, rolling her clit with his thumb.

“Oh, Duke. It’s so good, so sweet and hot.”

He broke the kiss and looked deeply into her eyes. “You know I love you, right?”
