Mister Dick

There was a long silence and then, “No, I haven’t. I figured you must be in over your head to call me.”
Harmony had always been able to see through the bullshit, and when it hit too close to home for me, she had always been my person.
“I miss you.” The words fell from my lips, and I heard her swear. Then I heard her talking to someone. Then I heard her yelling at someone. Telling them to get the fuck out of her room.
“Who was that?” I asked.
“Michael St. John.”
“Oh. God. Harmony. Why would you go there?” Michael St. John was pretty to look at, but no way would he satisfy Harmony. At least not intellectually.
“Because he’s as dumb as he is hot, and his dick is legendary, and he gave me a tennis bracelet from Tiffany’s.”
I’d heard rumors about the St. John family jewels. “Is he as big as they say?”
“Bigger,” she said with a giggle. “And he curves way right.”
I laughed, welcoming the lightness. “So Marjorie Hammond wasn’t exaggerating.”
“Hell no. If anything, she downplayed the size and upsold his ability. He was a soft six if I had to rate him.”
Again, silence fell between us. “I’m sorry,” I finally whispered. “For everything. I didn’t mean for any of that to go down New Year’s Eve. I was really drunk and angry and hurt and acting like an idiot, and douchebag Drake was there, and, well, there’s no excuse for what I did. And I’m sorry. I’ve tried to tell you so many times, but…”
“Well, you were blocked and all.”
“I was blocked.”
“Now you’re not.”
“No. I’m not.” And just like that, my sister and I slipped back to the way we were. I didn’t know how much I missed it until my knees nearly buckled, and I was glad I was alone so no one could see how weak I really was.
“I wish you were here, Echo. Paris isn’t the same without you. I invited Lyric to come, but she’s got school, and, um, have you talked to her at all lately?”
“No. Why?”
“I don’t know. Just a feeling, I guess. She’s always busy, and she’s being all mysterious and stuff. Makes me think she’s seeing someone.”
“Lyric?” I shook my head and wondered. “She hasn’t said anything to me.”
“I’m probably wrong. Though, honestly, she needs to get laid more than anyone I know. Speaking of.” Harmony cleared her throat. “Have you had sex with Boyd yet?”
“What? No.” The denial came fast and furious.
“Good.”
“Good? That’s all you got?”
“Hello. Earth to Echo. Boyd is your kryptonite, remember?”
“Yeah. I know. Everyone keeps saying that.”
“Who’s everyone?”
“Zach Gilbraid reminded me of that this morning.”
“Zach is there too? Jesus, Echo. Are you homing in on a threesome with two of the hottest men on the planet?”
“No.” I winced. “Hell no. Zach is just a friend, and Boyd…” My voice dropped. “I don’t know what Boyd is. It’s complicated.”
