You Drive Me Crazy (The Blackwells of Crystal Lake 2) - Page 64

There was only Regan, and in that moment, she was all Wyatt needed.

Chapter 22

Regan hadn’t been to A Cut Above for a manicure since before Christmas. Even then she’d been dragged in by her mother because Katherine insisted her hands should look presentable for the holidays. As for a pedicure? She couldn’t remember the last time. As she soaked her feet and gazed over her magazine at the girl sitting in front of her, she was pretty sure Dana was thinking the same thing.

“What color did you pick for your toes?”

Carly was back in town. Apparently, she’d flown back to Michigan the night before, and she’d shown up at Regan’s place an hour earlier, coffee in hand, plans for the spa and a look that said she wasn’t taking no for an answer. Luckily, it wasn’t Regan’s Saturday to cover the ER, so she could indulge her friend and spend the morning with her.

“I picked blue.”

Carly made a face. “Boring.”

“Jet Set Blue.” Dana looked up with a smile. “I’ll be right back. I just need to grab some tools.”

“Gosh, your feet are rough.” Carly shook her head. “But at least you shaved your legs.” She licked her lips and made an exaggerated smacking sound. “Though from what I hear, you’ve got plenty of reason to make sure every inch of you is well groomed these days.”

“Yeah?”

“Yep.”

Regan closed her magazine and set it aside. “I could say the same about you.”

Carly grinned. “The rumor mill must be working overtime.”

“Not hard to do when you and Jarret were spotted making out in the drive-through of the Dairy Queen. Jesus, Carly. You’re acting like a teenager.”

“Right?” She giggled and wriggled her toes. “I don’t know how it happened. I mean, I came home for the reunion and we just hit it off. He makes me feel like the sun is always shining, you know? I can be down and he’ll call, and suddenly, the world is spinning the way it should be. Not too slow. Not too fast. Just perfect.”

“Keep spouting stuff like that, and I’m going to think you’ve f

allen in love with him.”

Carly splashed the water a bit and lowered her voice when Dana sat back down. “I kinda think I have.”

Regan opened her mouth to respond, but she didn’t know what to say, so she shut it again. Carly and Jarret? In love?

“He’s been into you since high school.” Dana looked at both of them and shrugged. “Everybody knows it.”

“Everybody but Carly.” Regan finished her coffee and tossed it into the trash can. “Weird, don’t you think? How something unexpected can happen, and suddenly your axis is off-kilter. Everything you thought you knew is wrong. And everything you need to know is out of reach. Like you’re fumbling in the dark.”

“That sounds deep,” Carly said. “Too deep for a Saturday morning. Give me a couple of hours, and I’ll come up with an appropriate answer.”

Dana began to scrub Regan’s heels. Her fingers were firm, and the sensation was lovely. So lovely, Regan closed her eyes and sank back into her chair.

“You talking about Wyatt Blackwell?”

She yanked her head up and was greeted by Dana’s wide smile as she added more sea scrub to her heel.

“Excuse me?”

“Your axis killer. Must be Wyatt.”

Dana Margolla was the younger sister of a girl she went to high school with. She was maybe twenty-four, small, cute and apparently quite nosy.

“Everybody’s talking about you guys.” Dana gave her a knowing look.

Carly snorted. “Sheesh. Guess we’re the talk of the town, Thorne.”
