“What happens now?” Gertrude asked warily.

“Now, I can call off the search party,” Mark replied.

“It’s self-defence,” Sir Reginald warned with a narrow-eyed glare at Mark.

“Oh, believe me, nobody is going to question anything that has happened given the damned idiot is in this house,” Mark replied firmly.

He stood up and stared at his wife.

For a few moments, Harriett didn’t move. Mark wondered if she was ever going to forgive him, but after one last hiccupping sob, Harriett flew across the hallway and launched herself at him. In that precious second, the entirety of Mark’s world settled back into place. Despite his aching arm, he held on to his soul mate with every fibre of his being and fervently promised himself that he was never going to allow another single moment, or his job, to keep them apart again.

“Together forever,” Mark whispered lovingly to her before placing a very adoring kiss upon her lips.

“Together forever,” Isaac promised, grinning openly down at Tuppence.

“I love you,” Tuppence whispered.

“I love you too,” Isaac replied. “It is going to take a while for everything to heal and be repaired. Once it is, life will be stronger and more resilient because of what has happened. There is a silver lining to all of this. For me, I have found you, my soul mate, the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. While I am sorry that you were caused so much upset, we have the rest of our lives together to heal and simply enjoy ourselves.”

“Forever,” Tuppence promised.

“Together forever,” Isaac promise lovingly. The adoring smile he gave his future wife was made that much brighter by the knowledge that Mark and Harriett had resolved their differences and found happiness again too.

The End.
